    Pirating

I just recieved a message from a pirated program saying "Have you been using pirated software?" and then it displayed my IP and said how I am now being listed on their severs and w/e else.

I have already had history for pirating music, but I was reported to my ISP for it and they did not press any charges. What should I do?

What program was it? I think most ISP's send a warning letter in the mail.

    DU Meter.

Really tempted to buy a legit copy and make some bullshit story saying how I purchased it.

    EDIT: I just read this

"The RIAA has basically become a toothless dog. So many of their lawsuits have ended in dismissal that the US government is no longer accepting their cases. That does not mean that the owner of the material can not pursue the case but, they must do so individually."

^ That is for music though, I think the case may be the same. Like I must be sued by the company individually. They being from the USA, I think it would be a bit too much effort for them to sue me and I'm a minor. Though they did mention international law in their message.

I wouldn't worry about it, the most they'll do is ban you from their servers so you can't use the program. Sites selling programs like those would only really take legal action against people downloading hundreds of copies to use in their own business etc. As long as you're not making a profit besides being able to heck your internet usage, they shouldn't do anything. Honestly, just find another program, I remember downloading a freeware one that worked fine just recently. Can't remember the name though.

Thanks a ton bro and I have been reading a lot on the tracking on software pirates and it sounds the same to what your saying.

I will probably stop pirating for a while, just to be safe. I will also immediately buy a legal copy of that program if anything suspicious is happening.

More than anything, ISPs want to crack down on people who are uploading. So yeah, as long as you're not doing that, and are just part of the many who download, then you should be okay.

i would stop pirating. my friend's dad got a letter in the mail from the ISP with a first time warning offense (because my friend was pirating). If he was to continue, legal action would be taken.

I would be careful with this.

    good luck
