Photoshop vs GIMP... :(

K so my photoshop trial is DONE but I loved sooooo much photoshop and I was STARTING to be good! But now, I don't wanna pay like 200-1000$ for this program... too expensive for me I tried GIMP cause its free but.... Do a transaction - Photoshop to GIMP is realllly bad! lol sincerely, I hate GIMP for now cause I don't know how to use it and my head isn't thinking as GIMP but its thinking PHOTOSHOP! ... I havnt really 1 question... but if you could explain how this GIMP work, well I would be happy... I guess :S WHY PHOTOSHOP ISNT FREE!

I didn't know where to put this Just wanted to show how furious I was cause I MISS MY PHOTOSHOP and now have to learn all over again but with GIMP... its confusing :S

 

Photoshop CS2 is free. it does 90% of what CS6 does and it will be all you need to make signatures. Try it out.

 

You could of course torrent it but we aren't allowed to discuss that on sythe. Add my skype if you want further information.

 

im trying CS2 thanks! Less quality then CS6 but is better than GIMP or something else where I would have to learn again

I don't wanna risk my computer for now, so ill Skype if I change my mind but for now ... Im legit with CS2

 

It's the same quality as CS6, it just doesn't have 2 or 3 of the features. There are a lot of artists that still use CS2 just because they like it.

 

well sometimes the quality of the brushes, ... are less powerful but thanks for the CS2! I didn't want to restart learning for another program!

 

You have to find good brushes, unless you're digitally painting then the default brushes are generally really really good. Feng Zhu used PS CS up until a few months ago/

 

Well there are hundreds of tutorials on how to use GIMP on youtube, you could also look it up on google. I am sure that would be of help to you. Also, as Jack mentioned there is always the alternate route :#

 

You won't mess up your computer if you download the right one, but thats for off Sythe.

 

I read a lot of things on ''What jack said'' and its always saying that theres a chance to mess up computer.

You should use photoshop, its free and its pretty much like photoshop cs6, except it has like 3 less tools

 

You don't even need to download anything to get photoshop for free, no idea why these guys are even saying you have to. All you really have to do is edit your host file and input a key. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to get it for free that wont require you to click any link / download anything at all they'll just show you how to edit your hosts file and then you just copy paste some stuff from the description.

 

I love GIMP personally, but switched to PS as it's more of a "standard". Plus it has more documentation and guides for things I'd want to do.

 

Be cautious when saying this, gimp is better than what 99% of people may think, hehe. =P

However, I really recommend you to keep using Photoshop. It's way easier to use than gimp (less steps to achieve some effects), and has more user-friendly resources. Gimp is good, but one day you will want to move on so that you can improve, and the transiction from Gimp to Photoshop is really, really annoying.

 

I've never even used GIMP, and can the tools really be THAT different? sure there will be some difference, but wouldn't the basic tools (eclipse creator, slice tool etc.) still be the same in both GIMP and PS. OT I believe someone above me said you could just edit the host files, that will probably work without downloading something. good luck.

 

hey i would sigest what jack said. just find a tut on youtube an any way you downlode it from adobe an you just crack it. your pc will be fine. (just read the comments on the vid)

 

I agree, crack the videos on youtube make it complicated all you have to do is literally copy a file into the directory to crack it. I could guide you through on skype via screenshare if you dont have windows 8

 

I'm not sure what you meant by quality of brushes, but you are aware you can download new brush packs from many different sites? sorry if I've seen this post the wrong way! But a simple google search will land you in plenty of sites for all different varieties of free brush types

 

Yeah it's not hard to do what jack said, and I highly doubt any of the artists here have paid for what they use to design stuff, if you know what i mean.

 

I would personally just stay with CS2, it's a powerful piece of software and really holds all of the basics that you'd need for most artwork. GIMP < CS2
