2020 U.S. Presidential Election

Thoughts on the election as a whole? Incumbents usually have an advantage going into the reelection year, but it seems like Trump's current response to the COVID-19 pandemic and BLM protests has caused his poll numbers to slip. I understand people are skeptical of polls after 2016, but even the betting odds indicate this (which are more accurate than polls):

How do y'all think the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the election? Will certain demographics, who are more advantageous to one side, not show out in full force giving the other side an inherent advantage?

 

I think Trump has lost his edge for comments he has made towards allowing the tear gassing of peaceful protestors, and the fact that he is racist. Black people specifically who supported him would rather vote for a democrat than someone who isn't willing to stand by him. As much as I don't like either candidate I think that it is going to come to the lesser of 2 evils again as did last election. Clinton had things leaked weeks prior to the election and she ended up losing cause of it. I think Trump is digging his own presidential grave, although I don't think Biden is even competent enough to be a president, the man clearly has onset dementia or another mental illness that is impacting his cognitive functions. I digress though.

 

The polls in 2016 also predicted Hillary would win and look what happened.

There is this thing called the "silent majority", Trump had nothing to do with the cops that killed that black person (it was a Democrat city but the media seem to keep leaving that detail out).

I think Trump will get a 2nd term, Joe Biden just seems too old and senile to do the job (he keeps forgetting what he's going to say or says random off-topic things). Not to mention the Democrats want to have a black VP for political correctness reasons.

 

I'd agree with Laptop on the above. The polls don't really reflect the votership of the Trump fanbase.

I think if the democrats would make huge progress if they would take more of a generalized liberal approach rather than a leftist approach. The longer that they support the slamming of other presidential candidates, media bias, clear agendas, the destruction of US history, etc will continue to leave people who sit in the middle to vote Republican instead of Democrat.

The overall status of the left side right now is volatile and filled with leftists that are emotionally attached to their opinions and political views. This very volatile (look at any political based post on social media platforms) fanbase is incredibly offputting for someone like me who likes to rationalize opinions and facts and remove the emotion out of politics. If I was American, I'd have a hard time supporting the Democratic party until they get a candidate who is able to condemn leftist opinions, while maintaining an overall liberbal viewpoint but able to be reasonable or realistic in their asks or demands.

This isn't the current situation, and many people who voted Trump in 2016 will once again vote Trump in 2020.

It's hard to imagine that US politics are this divided. You literally can't have two more opposite parties right now. It leaves people who sit in the middle to pick an extreme which is unfortunate for the future success of the country.

 

I can't imagine the riots that will break out if Trump wins a 2nd term, they'd have to have the National Guard on standby on election night and the days following.

 

Really though - it'll be incredibly hostile.

Trump's success has a lot to do with the Democratic/left side dropping the ball rather than any "good" he's caused.

 

I think it's important to stress that the polls didn't "predict" anything. They are just that, polls, instruments for us to see a snapshot of the electorate at a certain point in time. Every reputable pollster details their process so it can be scrutinized. The media and political pundits are the ones that make the predictions based on the polls. I understand why people would be skeptical of polls after 2016, but the national polls were actually in line with the result, it was just the state polls that were a little off. Polls have historically been pretty good indicators. They aren't the "be all, end all" by any means, but I don't think they should be dismissed.

 

I'm interested in what the political outlook is going to be after all this bullshit in the states is done with the BLM movement and the media's regular racial division. I'm curious if the republicans will gain ground because they're not acting like orangutans or if the democrats will gain because people feel they're pushing a "good thing".

I am very conflicted with this year's presidential election. It's hard for a country to change its leader during troubled times. Look at history for that fact. However, SO many people detest Trump.

 

Lets fucking go Donald Trump... literally there is no other option, the media trys to put him down so much and mark my words he will be president once again because he is best for our country.

 

I dont Like Either I just wish we had a president that cared about Covid.

As for Biden.. he doesn't get the black vote, right?

Joe Biden isn’t capable of maintaining sanity. With that said, if he were to get elected he’d probably forget it within in a days time.

 

The guy is obviously still living in his era, Trump is going to mop the floor with him in TV debates if they do conduct them.
