[PENDING]Add a mini-rank to stimulate community related activity.

Hello readers, thank you in advance for taking your time to read this and I hope for some feedback too!

It suprised me that the community related sections (off-topic / discussions / runescape) etc are pretty much dead.
That got me thinking as I don't feel that much for the market aspect and am rather busy interacting with community things!
So I spoke with Devil and he navigated me to here, so here is my suggestion!


Add an minirank which can be obtained by showing activity - through posting / making topics - in community sections.
The icon would either be untradeable or tradeable, I think that's not the biggest issue, yet?
Certain rules would be added so it won't just be low-quality shitposting-spam.


I got told this was earlier suggested but denied however I just did a quick calculation and there are well over 600 minirank icons already.
The reason something like this got denied was because there are already too many, atleast that was I got told.
However if there are well-over 600 ranks, is adding 1 really that harmful when it could help adding life to the community sections? I believe it's well worth the 'risk'.
Worst case scenario there's 1 more minirank icon, so what?

No support once people get the miniranks that Yoshiki mentioned there isn't any reason for them to continue to post in those sections since there are more popular places to talk about those topics on other websites

 

That's an hypothesis, just as much as is my belief that adding them will spark back life.
However I believe purely because of that not adding it/giving it a try isn't smart.
the outcome is uncertain but worth the try imo.
I appreciate your input, do you agree with what I said here and does this change your opinion?

 

I wouldnt be opposed to having the miniranks be obtainable again for a few weeks to see if it does spark any interest back into those sections. If it doesnt bring much interest back I'd want them removed again since I wouldnt want the mods to waste their time making sure that a user posted x amount of times then giving the minirank to them if it isnt doing much to repopulate the sections.

 

This is why those miniranks were removed in the past; we set the bar at 25 posts and had a lot of spam posters just trying to meet that cutoff.

I wouldn't be opposed to reinstating these section-related miniranks but with a much higher cutoff, say 200 posts... or even more. The cutoff be high enough that most people can't spam their way to success.

I also wouldn't be opposed to making them tradeable, but maybe that's at odds with higher post limits. Though I'm not sure how it's any different than the prizebox system, which is basically pay-to-win. At the very least it would probably incentivize more activity within the sections and more trading activity for desirable miniranks.

 

@Superfluous thank you for your input, I can see that 25 posts is too low, 200 is way better in my opinion.
Making them tradeable may give the extra push for people to try achieving them?

If they can somehow incorporate Pokémon ranks into posts as well, would be a nice way to get users to want to be more active via discussion.

Let’s say whenever you post anywhere within the forums, you have a chance to roll a Pokémon. Chances would be low so that it would take some time to actually get something good but I think this would be a great way to get more people to be active.

no as pokemon miniranks actually have value, these participations (which i actually have so i can flex on u all) are worthless and untradable. pokemon miniranks should stay excusively to pokemon events which i really havent seen in a long time tbh tho

also no support to bringing these back as i want mine to be rare and its just gonna cause spam tbh i think i spammed for mine maybe i dont remember

 

Rare Pokemon would be hard to obtain. Everyone would be able to get lets say like a Pidgey after a few posts but very few will be able to obtain lets say like a Pikachu after a few thousand posts. It all depends on luck and being active around the forums.

The quality of the posts are all that matters.. so if someone is posting around the forums then that is not spam.

I believe this would definitely up activity levels and give some people incentive to want to post and be active around the forums.

There will be no exclusive Pokemon events if the forum is dead. Just my opinion.

 

No support, don't like where it will inevitably lead to. Also there are plenty of mini's already. The only proper mitigation would be to have more ways to obtain them (although I would not support that either).

Feel free to use Suggest a minirank thread if you have a specific mini you want to see added.

 

I've talked to Sythe regarding this and we don't see a problem bringing it back. If posts become spammy then we'll relook at it again. Lets be real, most of the current posts are of poor quality anyway. It's on his to-do list.
