PayPal Donations

This is a great reasoning as to why this suggestion shouldn't be implemented. I assume PayPal donations are the most popular and users have issues donating other ways as it is.

 

As with many other suggestions to stop scamming, the problem relies on the trading habits of the users.

Instead of blocking good things we need to educate users more.

Nonetheless I would support a restriction of not being able to donate via Paypal during your first month after registration. Might not do much, but it's a restriction that wouldn't create problems.

 

I think there already is a restriction like that if I'm not mistaken. I know you need some posts and to have donated previously, and I believe registered for a few months.

 

Requirements to donate via PP are -

-Been a member for more than 15 days.
-At least 100 post count.
-Already at least a $5 donator (I think this should be raised to $25 or something)

People were fighting for PP donations last year, and now it's finally been implemented. It's honestly the most easy way to donate right now, and I'll definitely be using it in the future to donate more. Oh and I'm sure Matthew has limits in place for who can donate what and how much to the site.

I understand this from both sides, There are the pro's and the con's but let's just say a newcomer was going to log on here donate 200$ with the intention to scam. Even if he had the donator mark there are still ways to prevent the scamming even if he is "trusted" Now, First look at his vouches if there aren't very many or many of crediability then there is always the option of using a middleman. On the Flip side of that depending on what the trade is even a middleman wouldn't be able to prevent against charges back or account recoveries. Bottom line is when a person comes here to scam they are going to try and scam ether way. Paypal donations make it easier, donated yesterday and it was instant it was nice. On the flip side of that, you shouldn't donate just because of the rank, you should donate to help sythe.org. So weather the rank appears instant or it appears in 3 days should be irrelevant. So honestly, if it starts becoming a problem, I would recommend removing it.

 

100 posts. I think 1 or 2 weeks of registration and being previously donor.

 

This same argument was given before it was implemented, and it seems the argument has continued even after the implementation of the system.

The fact is, it's a much simpler and easier way to donate, and thus Sythe gets more donations than it used to. Back when we could only donate via. Mail or WU it was a much trickier thing. Then, FireZ brought in his RSGP donation method, but it took ages to get in touch with him (he's a popular guy, ryt?).

This is unbelievably fast in comparison, and personally I'd say the pros far outweigh any cons.

 

Its called traders responsibility, it has NOTHING to do with donation methods.
