I think it's fine, as long as you know how to deal with it, or have someone who can take care of it for you.

Some animals are only found in homes and zoos now, there is no longer adequate habitat for them to survive. The reptile trade keeps endangered snakes and lizards alive.
More tigers are now kept in captivity in the United States than are alive in the wild, if this is what it takes to still see these animals then so be it.

My Grandma used to have a pet Cheetah, and a baby tiger when she was young, her father used to shoot animals and he couldn't bring himself to kill the babies. Having said this, it was in India.

Exotic animals belong in the wild, not cramped up with people living in a city.

Do reptiles count as 'exotic animals' and birds such as parrots?

Lastly, In my opinion it's simply wrong to keep caged birds.

If a species is not native to an area it is exotic and if animals no longer have somewhere to survive in the wild they belong in captivity.

I think if you have the area and the means to take care of a exotic pet then you should be able to own these animals. Also if these animals cannot go back to the wild then it is ok.
But if you don't have the proper area for a wild animal to be happy in you shouldn't have the animal.

It's okay if you know what you're doing, but there are definitely certain animals that shouldn't be allowed as pets like Chimps, Wolves, Lions, etc. I've heard of alot of people getting their faces eaten by Chimps and I also knew someone who owned one, but had to get rid of it because it was mean as shit. The only guaranteed safe way is to keep it in a cage, but I think that's just wrong.

    This is pretty crazy though.

To me, this is the same concept as a homeless man owning a dog. If you cannot take care of it, why have it?

You may not hear its suffering directly, but you have to be an idiot to not understand that if you are caging up a bird, or caging a lion or something exotic, you and holding it from what it loves to do. Kind of like putting someone in jail, when they did nothing wrong.

Costa Rica, Chito rescues a croc with a gun shot wound to the head. He tries to release it but it follows him home. Neally 20 years later now the two are so comfortable that they play and swim together, although Chito confesses it took many years for him to feel safe fooling around with Pocho, he is now able to roll around in the water with Pocho and have fun.

I think owning random Tigers that you capture is fucked up but if it grew up with you like that grizzly bear video its reasonable even though its still fucked up to own a bear.

I don't see a problem with owning an exotic pet unless you can't meet the needs of the pet.

i agree with you man.. even though it would be freakin awesome to own a lion or cheetah or bear or some shit like that... when it comes down to it it's not right but rescue type situations are awesome though

It all really comes down to circumstances, growing up I've been around sick and injured animals due to my mother owning an abandoned animal clinic.

The state you see some of these animals in, you wouldn't put your worst animals through. It's disgusting.

We had the fortune of being located relatively closely to a large national zoo so occasionally we'd have those huge rare beasts wandering (we also had one of the best vets in the country) - so oftentimes the zoo animals would end up in our care. Sometimes there wasn't enough room. Sometimes we had to take some animals home.

Kinda weird when you rock up home with a twelve thousand dollar black cockatoo in your arms. But hey, we grew up in a great environment. It's really eye opening to have seen both the peril of these animals and the recovery and re-release.

If any of you are in to animal welfare vets and animal clinics are always looking for volunteers. It's good shit. Get on it.
