Opinion on SSDs

30 gigs is perfectly fine if you're just using it for your boot. 64-bit Windows 7 by itself only takes up 20 gigs. I'm not sure how much 32-bit takes up.. i think 15 or 16 gigs.
SSD's don't last longer at all...

SSD life span: 1-2 years (if using it as your main drive, reading a writing constantly, running apps off it, etc) (my father bought a laptop a couple years ago, put a SSD in it and the drive died on his in a year and a half)
HDD life span: 5-7 years


Im not saying you shouldn't get an SSD. You honestly should. Just be prepared to replace it in two years. (By then the SSD will be obsolete anyways, and have better lifespan so might as well replace it)

 

30gig is way to small do you not understand? you run out of space so quick its not even funny. put on windows, 20-25gig, put on few programs, full.

i had a hdd die in 6months, you cant judge lifespan at all. ive seen ssds last for ages, if youre writing 24/7 to it(which you shouldnt, if you do youre retarded)

 

Well, it's about $20 more than the ones posted, but it's the best you're going to get for about the same price. Compare it with the others around that price and it surpasses in almost every benchmark.

Maybe, I don't really know. Mine works, but I haven't really been keeping up to date on this stuff.

 

Getting an Intel SSD would be good. So far I haven't really heard any major issues with them.

 

Yeah... I'm not going with OCZ. Brother got one and it was DOA out of the box.

 

A ssd should last more than 5 years with normal use, even with heavy use it will still last for a considerable amount of time, more than 1-2 years. Higher capacity ssds have a longer lifespan due to more memory modules. The only reason that you should need to replace a ssd for, is because it has become obselete.

I have run their SDHC cards (for cameras, etc.) and they actually keep up with some of the top brands in terms of write speeds. I'm curious to know if their SSDs are the same way.

 

Not for me. Try typing like "Micro Center SSD reviews" or Google and see what the website says.

 

What about Mushkin Chronos Deluxes? The read/write speeds look to be relatively good. On ebay with 240GBs/$150... ~$0.63/GB (where HDDs used to be a few years ago).

 

Haven't tried any too man I've only tried like Intel and OCZ mainly.

I'd say a 120gb SSD is more then enough, assuming you're not using it as a primary HD.

On a 120gb, you can have all your main softwares which will add up to probably 50-60gb max, then have the other 60gb for the main games you play.
