I use this program when people call me to fix their p.c. and it turns out they really only forgot their administrators password. Its quite simple really. Its a linux-based program, bootable from cd, user interface included. Just download, burn the image, then insert and run. I am informing you all of this program for non-malicious purposes only. So don't go getting any ideas. :idea:

Well now i can get it open but each type of download just cancels when its finished saying i have no disk space. which is untrue because this is a brand new cpu with hardly anything on it.

Also, I suggest that you use the Boot CD instead of the Windows Executable, as pwdump on windows doesn't always function properly, and as always, it's easier to get the SAM file when you're not in windows directly.

If you're not looking for password recovery, and just access to the computer, look for something called "ERD Commander." You can just change the password directly, and it's faster.

It cracks any password (all, by default) found in the SAM file in the selected windows partition.

It will crack any user password. cp pretty much gave you all the basic idea of the program. It seeks out the SAM file on the selected partition and decrypts and reads it out to you, basically.

I thought 'ERD Commander' was bought out by Microsoft. Not sure where I heard this from but, I also heard that Microsoft stopped the production of this software to keep people from using. Which is why I posted this thread.

I downloaded this program to recover my administrator password after I had forgotten it. It did not succeed in recovering my password, I ended up doing that on my own, but when I finally gained access to my computer, my Windows Sidebar, Windows OneCare, Firewall, and Defender were all disabled. I cannot use my media player, it freezes when I attempt to use it. My Network and Sharing Center is null, it will not even load. I am suspecting these symptoms to be related to this program "Ophcrack". I would like help on repairing my computer. My platform is Vista Basic. Thanks.
