Once a Liar Always a Liar?

Lying, something that we all do at least once in our life. I'm relating this well known phrase "once a liar always a liar" to something that recently has troubled me in my real life. Recently, my current girlfriend lied to me about random stuff to try to impress me, which I know could be looked at a good thing, but overall shows a lack of character.

She lied about various things to me for months.

First off, she lied about her past employment, such as: working at geek squad.
Secondly, she lied about owning a RuneScape account "Casserole". She claimed that she played on this account for several years with a couple of her guy friends and she even had one of them join with her on this lie. She did this all to impress me.
Third: She lied about something pretty big that almost destroyed my friendship between my best friend, turns out he was lying too.

Now, I know all these lies may seem harmless, but does it show that I cannot trust her with even basic little things like this? I mean, if she lies about her past employment, she is certainly going to lie behind my back to cheat on me.

After confronting her with all of her lies, she wrote me a seven page apology and promises to be honest with me. Should I take her back? Also, do you agree with the quote "once a liar always a liar"?

Note: I broke up with her once before because she lied to me, I took her back and she lied to me again..other than the lying, she is perfect for me

Give her one last change. Strictly tell her that if you find her lying again, you won't take her back.

The 'once a liar, always a liar,' quote only applies to some people. Some never change their bad habits, while others do. The main thing is, you can't ever tell for sure.

 

sounds like she is just as confused as the rest of us.
my opinion, give her a break. we all make mistakes and do some pretty stupid things to attempt to impress those we like.

also, it sounds like this behavior may stem from your reactions to her. she, like many girls her age, seem like she is trying to conform to what she thinks is an ideal female because her real self (rs player, geek squad employee) isn't supported by society and possibly you.

 

Lying is part of being human , if you do not lie , then your perfect - but unfourtunatley everyone lies...

Weather you want to take it seriously or get over it, It's your choice.

I agree with most of the others; you should give her one more chance. A 7 page apology letter is impressive, and hopefully means she gets the drift.


Her ability to make YOUR friends lie to you is..unnerving though. It probably won't work out.

Yes, it seems she isn't lying to you to hurt you or keep secrets. She's rather lying to you to impress you and that makes me think that she thinks she isn't worthy of you and so she's insecure and lying. Don't confront her with this, instead find your own way to tell her that you think she's fine the way she is.

Thanks, I hope that you realize that life isn't all about looks. She isn't shallow and actually likes me for who I am. I'm able to date girls that are even prettier than her, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to. I am dating her because of the fact that she has many of the same tastes as me and also many that are different. She is very intelligent, which is a must in the people I date and also shares the common goal, with me, of being a doctor. We both are very kind and sweet which is rare to find in a community filled with "rich kids".


On topic, I'll give her another chance. I mean what is the worst that can happen.

Agreed. One last chance can never really hurt. If she lies again, just remove her from your life, atleast for a few months.

besides the last lie.. she practicly did it for you, or to impress you atleast, shows she really cares about you. quite a bit... aint tht a good thing? the lies havnt gotten big... and hopefully they never will, best of luck to the both of you now go get her tiger ;]

 

Hehe, thanks for being honest about not reading it and thanks for coming back to read it! Yes, she does care about me a lot and is doing a lot to prove that she was just trying to impress me. I honestly should just date her again and hope for the best! The worst thing that can happen is that it ends in failure and then I know that it isn't meant to be! I have lots of time to fail anyways, I'm only 17.
