Front Page Redesign

Perhaps the layout of the front page as a whole needs to be redone in a multi-column layout.
There's lot's of wasted space between the end of the description and the start of the latset posts thing. Changing the layout to have two tiers and changing the latest posts thing to be smaller would work better imo
so


Should be simple enough to implement since most of the front page's code is pasting blocks of PHP. Just rearrange the div's abit and make CSS classes to push them to the left and right of the container and you'd be done in an instant.

I think it'd look great. Support. There's always room for improvement.

 

I'm not sure the design you proposed is the best approach to re-creating the home page...

 

Dialatic uses this sort of system I think, you can go to his site to see a good example if you know the URL. I could post a screenshot, but I don't want to tread on any toes

 

I think this website could benefit with an actual front end, probably less daunting to new users.

That idea is good though, probably more organized.

The market is very professional and clean, and I especially like that the community is cleanly separated from the market (you'll notice the "Community" tab in the top right of the page)

 

I think something similar to ownedcore would be nice something like.

and you click each tab to navigate to different forum sections and easily displays the sub sections without needing to click within the forum to see it.

 

That is an option as well
I've made a rather messy 5 minute mockup of what it'd actually look like in the simplest implementation. And I looked at the HTML and since you're using a table layout I suppose it's as simple as condensing the <tr> tags used for each subforum into pairs and screwing with the attributes some till it fits - making it dynamically change to usergroup perms is more complex I suppose, and if you get a half decent theme using divs then I expect it'd be alot easier.

 

Going to bump this because it seems it really just went inactive because everyone was thinking vb4 was coming.

 

Peraonally I like the single column look. I can easily scroll and not accidently miss anything. Maybe a concept for a new theme rather than the Sythe default look..

Yeah I like that it displays the sub forums also, that's a nice addition.

Not really. The vast majority of the space is wasted, and having a two row description wouldn't hurt too much. I took that into consideration when I thought of this and it could easily be made a layout with 500 or 600 pixel width before it really becomes impossible.
That's more than acceptable considering you shouldn't be using this site with less than a 1024x768 monitor
The support forum, which has the longest description, looks like this at minimum width on the current layout

Making that the norm for smaller monitors shouldn't be too extreme
