    Obama's inauguration

Four years ago, the Associated Press and others in the press suggested it was in poor taste for Republicans to spend $40 million on President Bush’s inauguration. AP writer Will Lester calculated the impact that kind of money would have on armoring Humvees in Iraq, helping victims of the tsunami, or paying down the deficit. Lester thought the party should be cancelled: “The questions have come from Bush supporters and opponents: Do we need to spend this money on what seems so extravagant?”

The price tag for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration gala is expected to break records, with some estimates reaching as high as $150 million. Despite the bleak economy, however, Democrats who called on President George W. Bush to be frugal four years ago are now keeping silent.

Just another example of how liberal americas media has become.

    Obama's inauguration

They are also expecting about ten times as many people to show up for Obama's inauguration as came to Bush's. There are estimates of anywhere from one to to four million people coming to DC for the event.

This is expected to be the largest inauguration in the history of the United States, and there are going to be almost 40,000 security personnel in the city - would you prefer if they cut back a bit?

I'm going to be a hundred feet from the podium at the inauguration. There is a slight, yet very present, chance that something will happen. I feel much safer knowing all the security measures that have been taken, despite the cost.

You feel like cutting back? I'm glad that your opinion isn't shared by the people who's opinions matter.

    Obama's inauguration

Did I say they should cut back?

I said they bashed bush for spending $40 million. The media said it could go to so many other things. But now that obama is spending $140 million you dont hear a peep out of the media saying that obama's spending could have gone to a better cause.

How is Obama any different from bush? They will both be commander in chief and they both deservere the same respect.

    Obama's inauguration

    40,000 < 1 to 4 million

I don't think they could stop anyone trying to do something anyways with so many people around.

    Obama's inauguration

It's going to be alot bigger than Bush's so the cost is going to be proportionally bigger.

    By the way.....

    Obama's inauguration

Who does anyways? We all know he said the things he did to be elected... More for the poor, Less for the rich!!! pfft. Now hes like my new plan gives tax breaks to the upper class to fix the economy.

Which I don't have a problem with because its a pretty good idea, but his fellow democrats don't really agree.

150 million dollars is quite a bit of money though. Did they get some of this money from ticket sales or are they saving ticket profits for something else?

    Obama's inauguration

I really do not like Obama, and never have. Everyone in my school that loves him, when I ask why they say because Hilary is a bitch, and Obama is cool...

But anyways... Since they think that as many as 4 or 5 million people are going to be there, of course they have to spend more money... >.<

    Obama's inauguration

Eh, I cant wait to see him in action. He has a lot of shit cut out for him, I want to see how he's going to handle it all.

I personally liked Bush, I mean sure he screwed up a few times but hey, he is human. I do think it was time for change though...
