Is this also one of the ones which was used as evidence for the eruption of crete? The translation was very similar.

This is ineterestiong, although at certain atmosphereic pressuures and at perfect conditions, similar reactions can happen within the earth. It is scientifically proven that this has happened is many parts of the world. as there is small deposits of uranium, that have been tested and radiocativly tested, giving the impression that a neuclear meltdown explosion has occured.
This, is my theory as to what they are talking about.
Although i stil may be wrong :p.

On reflection, aliens do sound like the most plausible explanation :)

I'm currently reading a book entitled, "The Chariots of the Gods." It provides knowledge that suggests that aliens did come to this planet, many years ago, and did help and harm civilization. This would make a whole lot of sense if aliens could have done this. In the bible, there was another description of an atomic bombing, when I find it, I'll edit this post.

Given that Ancient Indians can't build weapons that powerful, the only explanation is:

    -It's a fraud
    -It's a phoney
    -It's over-exagerrated
-It was a UFO flying above, while the other army actually shot thousands of arrows into the sky
-We, from the dreaded future of nuclear warfare, have discovered time-travel and went back in time to stop nuclear warfare. Unfortunately the time-machine breaks, and we get sent too far into the past. It turns out that one person in the party named Johnathan Van Splorgenheimer supported nukes, and let one off
    -Aliens gave them nukes
-An alien dropped nukes on them

    Sound reasonable? XD

EDIT: But to be honest I think it was either a meteor or as Tyr0n3 said above, deposits of active uranium causing nuclear meltdowns.

To me it actually sounds like it describes a meteor impact or a volcano?

nuclear devices back then wouldnt have been manufactured as weapons.. they would have been a mere incidental encounter.
a story in the bible (coming from a non-christians perspective) suggests a nuclear explosion as opposed to god throwing balls of fire down onto the city..

I believe it's a volcano due to a few things said such as the animals turning white this is due to the ash ofcourse and also it says that the animals collapsed and died this is also fairly obviously pointing to volcano.

The sky turning dark, Fire arrows in all directions and people trying to "escape the fire" which would be the lava.

It's just a volcano erruption which india hadn't experienced at that time thats why it's called a "unknown weapon".

Well it might be true. Anyone heard one of Einsteins famous Quotes? He said "The fourth World War will be fought with Sticks and Stones", in other words the Nuclear Bombs will nearly destroy our Planet and therefore we would have to start again. Eg. If all schools and nearly everything would be destroyed they would have to build with sticks and stone and fight with them too. So there is a Possibility that there was a Atomic war which nearly eliminated us Humans, but thats just my theory.

Anyone ever read the Shannara books? It suggests that it's in the middle-ages, but if you read it hard enough, you'll notice that it's actually in the future where nuclear warfare started life over again.

In comparison to this incident, maybe they really DID have nuclear weapons back then, and the technology of nuclear weapons was lost after many people died to them.

And the "animals turning white" thing is I'm guessing, radioactive fallout.

Ok, this has got to be the stupidest shit I have ever heard.

All this transcript is describing (if in fact, it is not a hoax) is a big boom, a "column of smoke and flame," last I checked, Atom bombs look like skinny mushrooms and high payload H-bombs look like fat mushrooms, this passage doesn't mention much about that.

Ok yes, maybe its a description of some long lost super weapon, maybe its the product of some jacked up Hindu's imagination...

...Or maybe it is a Joke...

I have read the Mahabharata. This is a real passage. And read the sources above about radioactive soil in the Thar desert.
