New Spoiler

This would be an awesome quick addition in my opinion. Add the possibility for members to have an image used as a spoiler.


*for people who might not understand... It's the same thing as a spoiler but with an image beside of

Example of a way to use it :
Beside having this boring square:

Spoiler: about me

bla bla bla

You would be able to click on a way cooler 'about me' title and then the text would appear.

I think with this addition, the threads can look a whole lot different (with graphics).

I definitely like the idea. I'm fairly sure though, others have thought of this and recommended it. I would support, but the amount of content in one post would be heavy, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad, but posts and threads will be loaded (with images).

 

Signatures and threads are already loaded with links.
By adding this feature, people will change their threads and will remove links.. To add some new links.

People uses spoiler already mostly for large pictures or tons of pictures to show.

So I dont think its a problem

It would definitely reduce load times and be easier on the eye for GFX-heavy threads if made use of.

Im sure its possible to create this spoiler in vbulletin. It looks like a simple addition.

If needed, I can search online for something like it using vbulletin. But im sure Matthew is already able to implement it without

 

I am going to offer support as well. It's not a major change and would be a nice feature to have.

 

How would someone know that the picture is a spoiler in itself? It would be obscure.

 

Well its the person's choice to use a picture as a spoiler so he would make sure people know its clickable if he uses it.

Sure, we could use something like the "live example" ^ ive shown above with the "click to hide or show" transparent banner on the picture... But that wouldnt be great for people wanting to design their own button.

Well the GFX Designer finds a way. It will be the exact same thing. And if no use of a GFX Designer, people will let others now (or people will see by themselves when their mouse will be on the picture ... Cause their mouse will change.)

Hypothetically, let's say he uses image spoilers. When first viewing the page without looking at the comments, would I know there is a drop down within the image? If we have to depend on someone to notice a change in their mouse, it's not going to be that effective.

Because of the obscurity, I don't think it's use would be effective as a regular spoiler would. Given that it doesn't affect me, I see no problem with this if probable.

 

I agree with ghast's opinion on that there's no reason you cant use a regular spoiler, as its used to tell people there's going to be a large picture/wall of text anyways but I'm inclined to support this.

 

Support, I like the idea that RSGOD gave. I feel like it would be very beneficial for some threads.

 

Its the exact same thing with links... How do we know the picture has a link? What youre saying is that if we dont know, it would not work? But links do work.. Why? Because, as I explained before, the owner of the links makes sure others know they can click on it and be redirected somewhere. It is the EXACT same thing with this spoiler.

If the only reason to not have this feature is because people dont know, well I would suggest maybe adding a small arrow in the bottom right of the picture-spoiler. This arrow will have a gray-ish transparent background and will be facing up (when the spoiler is not shown) and down (when the spoiler is shown).

Pictures are auto-re sized now so it wouldnt matter

 

phpbb and vbul use different coding. It may be able to be ported to VB as is, but that would most likely require it be re-written from the ground up (don't quote me on this, Govind may be able to offer better insight) - Regardless, unless you find one that's made for VB, and easily implemented, even if this does get accepted it'll likely go on the end of an already long list of additions/work that needs to be done.

For sake of ease and expedience, I'd recommend you try to find a version for VBul

I assume you're talking about hyperlinked pictures. There is little to no obscurity with linked images for many reasons. I think image spoilers won't be effective as a regular spoiler because it's unconventional, and really holds no purpose when the option is already available. I am not against this. "Given that it doesn't affect me, I see no problem with this if probable."

 

People who just want to use spoilers because they want to hide something and use it normally, sure there is no use to a pic as a spoiler. But Im suggesting this for people in the market, gfx designers, people who wants creative threads, etc.

Its not really "beautiful" but it shows you one way to use the imgspoiler.
