Sorry if this has been said already, not really in the mood for reading all the posts, just read the OP and the 2nd one...

North Korea is believed to not have the technology to carry a nuke on a missile all the way to America, that if they were to use a nuke, it would only effect south Korea or Japan, but we do have troops over there, so it could ignite a war, but it would be a short one and possibly result to there no longer being a "north" Korea.

However, when I was watching the above information on the news, something crossed my mind.... why would a missile be required? We nuked Japan back in WWII but we didn't have technology to put nukes on missiles to fire that far... We used planes... does N Korea not own any planes? Is the talk of no missiles strong enough to reach us just a way to keep the nation calm?

The troops over there were given 3 days if a war broke out meaning their life span would be shortened to 3 days..

We only have mid 18,000 troops over there which wouldn't prevent anything at all.

With radar and such the plane would be detected even with all this stealth stuff.. and then knowing North Korea the plane might not even cross the ocean..

Because with a great big 30m plane, it could easily be shot down with the technology we have these days. Whereas with a nuclear or ballistic missile going at almost the speed of sound or even above, it is still difficult to target and destroy such a small and fast object. Kinda like trying to shoot a bullet out of the air with another bullet.

The Koreans are just flexing. They don't have the means to do anything serious. The guts? Maybe, maybe not. Either way it would be incredibly stupid for them to make the first move.

Update

About 1 hour to go until today's launch window opens for North Korea's planned EMP attack on Japan.

The hope is that they can get the missile high enough before it's shot down.

Based on average response times, it would take around 80 seconds for the missile to be shot down, which would put the missile at an altitude of around 20km. 30km is the altitude needed for an EMP detonation, so the missile would need to hold on for around 1 minute and 45 seconds to assure it reaches it target.

The DPRK military is pressuring Kim Jong Un to respond to covert F-22 strikes into the heart of North Korea.

The US is trying to provoke a war to attenuate the eventual cost of a war it sees as inevitable.

Exploding a nuclear weapon high over Japan may cause little damage to electronics, but it would certainly be the first shot in a war. There is no way that Japan could simply ignore something like this.

The Japanese had little to no warning prior to the events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. North Korea has essentially announced to the world their "game plan" - so to speak. Do you really think the US will allow the North Koreans to casually fly nuclear armaments towards them without retaliating?

IIRC we dropped leaflets telling people that the cities were going to be completely destroyed the day before we dropped the bombs.

North Korea doesn't have the fuel to fuel its planes. It's pilots suck and we would know if they loaded a nuke onto a plane and we would either blow it up on the runway or shoot it down before it even got out of the country. We have more than just the troops on the ground too (which wikipedia says is more than 18k). We have a massive navy and airforce which is where our true power comes from.

It's interesting reading comments from other people who don't even live in America.. most of em say they don't care if we go down or not.. and the others say they would join in and help..

Also what's going on tonight at 8? Isn't there the nuke test over Japan?

Sorry im british, but this was an intresting read.

The USA has been the biggest and most powerful country for a while now, if North Korea even touch it it would be wiped. The USA could easily take out north korea if they can somehow do an invasion or some sort, but it kind of scares me N.K are so confident when they know the allies and the firepower the USA has. Maybe N.K have developed a new weapon or something? Only time will tell.

I think that they are just acting cocky to provoke SK or the USA into attacking them, then they will unleash their forces under the condition that they were attacked first.
