Every night at 3am (eastern) my computer likes to freeze up firefox. When I open up the task manager, I see that svchost.exe is running at 100% and CPU Usage is at 100%. Once I close out firefox, after a minute or two, svchost.exe will drop but System Idle Process runs between 100% and 90%, CPU Usage still at 100%. After about 4-5 minutes everything will drop and CPU usage will go back to 10%-15%. Any idea why this happens? All my programs I have installed are not set to automatically run/update yet I get this problem every night. Automatic updates from windows is turned off as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

hmm well i know the defualt time for windows updates is 3:00AM. I would double check to make sure its off. Right click my computer | properties | Automatic updates | Turn off. You should install the updates manually though.

firefox sucks anyway..never liked it much yet its still my main browser

There's known memory leaks in Firefox that are really hard to pinpoint. Usually they only occur on certain configurations or in certain situations and it's believed that it's related to certain Windows Services.

1) Try disabling some Windows Services - try here or just use Google for further explanations.

2) Just switch to Internet Explorer / Opera.

Check your virus scanner?

I'm pretty sure System Idle Process is just pseudo-bullshit for idle (not in use) commit charge.
