Okay, so I've been running a torsoing business for more than a year now, and I have not once had an unhappy customer. Yet it seems anyone, customer or not, can rate my thread which is a direct reflection on the service. As a customer of other things (account upgrades, firecapes etc) I have begun to realise the 5/5 stars DOES influence who you go to - but as a thread and torso business owner, I know that it is truly a poor reflection of how good the service is - the owner of the thread could have rated themselves 5/5.
So I ask. Why do we have thread ratings?
Just recently my thread was given a 1/5 rating by another thread owner, a COMPETITOR. I mean I have had 2 customers bothered to rate so it put my average to 3/5, but still. Why do we have such an inaccurate means of distinguishing the legitimacy of threads?
    My suggestion: Remove it altogether.

It's really nothing to worry about it no-one looks at it as a sign of anything anyway.

I just see it as an inaccurate method of rating threads - the fact the people who have never even used your service can alter it kind of demeans its purpose and usefulness entirely..

This has been suggested already. Again, there's no point as no one bases services of thread rating.

I usually give everyone one star, didn't know it meant anything to anyone. It's really nothing to worry about.

I actually agree with you, stars do matter slightly when deciding who you go too. I'm sure there's a better fix than altogether removing it though...perhaps make it so you have to have posted on the thread to rate? Or have to put at least a 5 letter note in with the rating, and competitor rating just to hurt your business will be infracted?

That'd really make ratings mean something.

Even if one thread has 1 star, it will bring recognition.

Think about it, if your service was really worth 1 star, there would be a problem and you should have suspicion under your name. The reality is the stars, no matter how many, bring recognition.

I didn't know you were every single person on sythe?
You cannot make false claims like this...

Personally!!! I do not base it on the rating , But others MIGHT.

I actually support and think it should be removed. If you have a 5* rating , people often vote 1*'s because they are immature and want to see it go down

    Example:

    , when really its a 5* service.

I'm not every single person on Sythe; I thought that was obvious.

What false claim did I make?

    It was sarcasm...you stated

"No one bases service on thread rating"
When you are completely oblivious as to what others think.
    Which is a false claim..

Who bases services off of a thread rating? My training thread has a rating of 2. Do people not use me because of this? Apparently not.

Instead of removing it, you could just ask your customers to rate your thread after you have completed a sale with them. Then it would get higher and may actually mean something.

Thread rating should have been disabled for regular members. If it hasnt, I will look into it.

I've learnt to ignore this, It would be nice if it were removed but it doesn't seem to bother me anymore.

wait what there are thread ratings?

I honestly don't care if someone has a 5 star or 1 star i still trade with caution.

and if someone has a 1 star thread and has an interesting title that sparks my interest. I'm not reading it cause of that 1 star (sarcasm)

    I don't care either way.

If you keep it sweet I'll keep ignoring it

If you lose it I won't even notice it's gone.

He may want to check on the forum when he is away, and doesn't want to risk losing his phone and someone having access to an account with administrative powers.

I don't see much point in having thread rating system as we can tell if a thread's worth looking by number of replies it has.

Not sure if I am just bringing up a finished topic here, but I would like to share some fact as well.

My story is I had never used MM before and never been to MM section before. Earlier today, I needed to purchase a Steam account and the seller did not appear very well-trusted. I really wanted to buy the account so I thought of MM service that I read about in a sticky thread. It was very early in the morning, like 7 or 8 AM in US, and I went into MM section to look for a MM. It turned out that almost no one was available at that time because it was so early in the morning. I knew that the seller was trying to be nice and waited for me so I had to find a MM really fast. In my mind rush, looking into the MM section which I was not very familiar with, I did not even know how MM worked very well, nor did I know that there was difference between official and unofficial MM, nor did I have enough time, I jumped from thread to thread, copied down their msn and added one by one to try to find one online. While in the rush, without much time to read as every MM thread was so long and differently formatted which confused my eyes so much, my instinct told me to click on the threads with higher rating with lots of posts first, then lower rating with lots of posts, then no rating with lots of posts, then no rating with fewer posts. After going through about 50 threads in more than 30 minutes, I finally found 1 MM online at the moment, and his thread was the last I went into because his thread did not have any rating or many posts.

As many people have stated that rating of threads should not matter in people's judgment of the OP's business's quality, I would like to point out that my experience would show that it does matter though in extreme situations like mine.

As a consumer, I don't ever look at a rating. The only thing a star can do is bring in more people (catches the eye). Whether it has 1 star or 5 stars means nothing to me.
