Requesting Pardon for being Hacked #2

Hey, all. Entrr messaged me offsite and told me Richard had a revelation about the leak that caused several accounts (including mine) to be compromised. He suggested I repost my pardon, so here it is:

    My profile: http://www.sythe.org/members/381972-lolsmurfin.html
    _____

    Ban reason: Damage control- http://www.sythe.org/report-scammer/...m-07-scam.html
    _____

Proof of contacting victims: None, I no longer use my Skype for anything and as a result could only contact the victim(s) through Sythe, where my account is banned.
    _____

Anything I wasn't banned for but want to confess: N/A
    _____

    Detailed description of the events:

I was notified by a good friend - on my birthday, no less - that TTB had asked him to contact me because my Sythe account had been hacked. At that point, I hadn't been on the site (much less traded anything or done any LoL boosting) for a couple of months or so. I was quite clearly inactive. And not only was I inactive on the site, but I had also gone completely inactive from gaming in general. I was only ever on the computer to do homework and to study.

So the hack came as a bit of a shock. I reviewed the details and saw a couple of scam reports pile up, to the tune of some 500M+ cash. Naturally, the spam forum spawned its usual garbage about a scamquit, so I dropped in just to confirm for my friends that I still wasn't a scumbag. That was about it; I didn't have the money to pay the scammed RSGP back, so I just faded back into inactivity like before.
    _____

Did you fully read and follow this sticky thread in the pardon section?:

Fully read, yes. Followed, not quite, because it is not possible for me to repay the gold scammed by the hacker. Please read on before locking the thread, if you would.
    _____

So here's the rub: Nothing has changed for me financially since the hack. I am unable to pay the scammed money back because I'm a college student just trying to get by on rice and beans and the occasional PB&J. My only noteworthy income is my scholarship money, about which I have no discretion - it automatically goes straight to paying my tuition/fees/etc.

But I believe I am still deserving of a pardon here on Sythe despite not having paid back the gold scammed by my hacker.

"Whaaaaatt??" You might ask. Yep, you read that correctly, and no, I'm not trying to be rude or arrogant. This sort of pardon has been accepted before, and I see no reason mine should not be the same for this reason:

I am not at fault for the hack. You can blame me for not having two-factor authentication on my account if you'd like, but the simple truth is that my password was recovered by the hacker as a result of some security breach of Sythe.org. I suspect a database leak. I say this because my computer was not infected with any sort of malware - I scanned it using several different programs - and none of my other important/valuable accounts (Bank, Credit card, University, PayPal, RuneScape, League of Legends, Steam, etc.) were compromised in any way. There was no RAT, there was no rootkit. I always kept my password safe because I could not use 2FA (I did not have a smartphone and could not find a reliable authenticator elsewhere that would actually work); some Sythe-based security measure failed me and the victims of my hacker's scams. That is no fault of my own.
    _____

    So there you have it.

I also do want to express that although I do not regret anything I did personally, I certainly do regret that people were scammed for some of their livelihood. The whole situation was unfair to all of us, simply because people exist out there who are greedy and unscrupulous enough to take what is not theirs.

Also, I posted this whole thing with the assumption that you (the staff) know I am completely innocent of the scam. Ryan mentioned somewhere (I think the scamquit thread in the SF?) that it clearly looked like a hack, and I would be glad to provide any supplementary information you might need to prove my innocence should it matter.

At the end of the day, I won't lose sleep if you all deny my pardon, but I'll still miss the community and being able to pick up a couple million GP from the lowest bidder when I feel like starting a new pure project on RS. I hope my complete honesty and tireless customer service during my time on the site - as a gold salesman, a worker for Jon and Jess (where I certainly could have scammed them and their customers should I have wished to), and an independent League of Legends booster continue to have a positive impact on all those I served.

I don't understand why you would think we'd make an exception for you when we've made others go through the same process.

The security breach is not your fault, but not fortifying your account security by enabling 2fa is. 2fa has been an option for 2 years now. I know you've seen multiple account hackings, so not protecting yourself shouldn't be our burden. Even the most primed websites heavily regulated in security get hacked. This is exactly why we offer it.

You'll still need to refund the victims of your hacking before pardoning.
