Funny you mention that, I was saying I kind of hoped they played poorly to justify making a move for someone like Bishop before the season started. But yikes..I didn't want it to be this bad. With the acquisition of Hudler to an already really strong roster, I was expecting a good squad. But you're right, defense has caught up to them. Klingberg has regressed a lot. Lehtonen and Niemi not stealing games like they did last season. And my god, the Stars in Overtime were excellent last year, this year they're like 1-10 or something awful in OT. That's 10 lost points right there.

 

Yeah 8 losses in OT isn't pretty. Lehtonen and Niemi were never great goalies and rotating them doesn't work lol. Klingberg regressed the second half of last season and I had a hunch he was going to continue regressing the following year.

Leafs lost a tough one tonight with the backup in net, shame we couldn't have taken at least one point from it. Ottawa got a point and the Bruins got a win so the Leafs are temporarily out of the playoff picture - still feeling optimistic about their final chances at qualifying though

to be fair, injuries have ravaged both teams, more so the stars, so its not just ruff's fault. that, and it's entirely on the GM to get an actual goalie rather than 2 washed up has-beens. that's the GMs fault, not ruff's

 

Systematic failure no doubt. Nill has always been patient. Perhaps overly so.

imo, they should try and go for a tank and get a high draft pick. if they pick up a good defenseman and get like bishop, they are in a good spot in a couple years

 

it will take longer than that for a rebuild i think..and even in a couple years Eaves/Spezza will tail off even further, and no guarantee if the old guys like Oduya will be useful at all anymore. I always think they should ship off what they can now, and just grind through the next 3-4 years of being mediocre but getting good picks, wonder what a player of Benn's caliber could fetch lol

 

2 first rounders and a good prospect i bet. i'd be astounded if they trade him

 

I can't see him realistically being shipped out either but if they theoretically want to do a full-on rebuild he's got to go at some point
