I'm level 10.

I am just wondering, does your character get extra EXP if it causes damage to minions and champions, or does it ONLY get exp from being near the death of a champion or minion?

How does the EXP work to get your character to the next level?

(Not the level outside of the game, but the level in the game, where the max level is 18).

Thank you.

Edit: Thank you so much for your clear and informative replies everyone. I really do appreciate them! :)

Killing minions, jungle creatures, other champions, but also assisting or generally being near minions/champions when they die.

You dont have to do damage if your next to the thing that is killed you get exp. Drag and Baron give exp to your whole team even if not near it known as Global EXP

Generally you just have to be inside the EXP range. You need not deal any damage to the minions nor doing the last hit to gain EXP (with the exeption of neutral monsters eg: jungle monsters).

This is one of the key factors to why the role of support is viable! As support you can let your attack-damage carry kill all the minions while you stand by protecting him and soaking EXP.

I'm not sure if you've run into AD carry-support bot lanes at level 10, but this is the META game currently at level 30. (once in a blue moon; 1/300 games, some people might do some cheesy tactic and run something other than AD and support bot lane, sometimes it works, other times it dosn't. This results in the team insulting them and calling them trolls)

I also want to quickly mention that there is way to modify the EXP you are gaining. Currently there's one champion "Ziliean" whoms passive increases the teams EXP by 8% (it is indeed alot). Furthermore there is mastery points in which you gain EXP if you stand near a higher level champion (this is an okay option for supports due to the fact that they're behind in levels mid-late game.) Lastly runes. Wearing EXP runes can increase your EXP gain by up to 6%.

Hope that could help :)

To get more exp you just slay minions, last hitting them will only give you the gold but if you stay on a minion it will give exp or you can go in the jungle and slay dragon which will boost exp for our team
