New Sticky About Recovery Tests

Hey guys,

Now most of us who have been around sythe for a while known that these so called "recovery tests" don't do jack shit for account security(excuse my language), but i still see people asking for them on the daily. I think it's just a money grab for mms and a way to seem more legit even tho we all know it's still the og owner with the most control.

I suggest that there should be a sticky warning members that these "recovery tests" aren't actually going to make your account purchase any safer. Ik it kinda explains this in the all accounts of recoverable thread, but i think it needs to be a little more clear.

I know we all hate them and every time ones brought up some of you cringe, so lets just try to make the correct info available and maybe in the future they will be non existent.

I'm going to go ahead and support this, recovery tests don't do anything in terms of actual account safety, if 2 people recover the same account, Jagex will always check IP's and give it to the original owner, in some cases the original owner can put whatever he wants on the recovery test and he'll get it back just because the IP matches.

People think using a MM when purchasing an account will make it secure, but it's the exact same as if they wouldn't use one, if the seller is looking to scam, he'll scam either way.

 

Recovery tests often fail even with the correct information for many reasons. Too many instances of the recovery process with the same information from multiple locations can result in the account being manually permanently banned.

Sure, I think it would be better to have it added and expanded on in the "Accounts are always recoverable" sticky though, since it falls under that idea.

It's currently a sticky in the middleman forums, but I'm sure it being added to the account section would be smart.

This is why I'm hesitant to do them to be honest, losing an account this way would be awful.

 

Support, doesnt make a trade much safer it makes it more risky because the account can get locked for good.

 

I forgot to bring this up a while ago. Recovery tests haven't worked for YEARS now and it puts the seller at risk in the event a trade doesn't go through. It was a false positive to begin with.

Yeah i didn't see this before i made this thread, but that kinda adds to the issue. This information should be more clear and easier to find especially in the account market section.

There is a sticky there too, warning people of the same thing. It just boils down to people not reading the stickies.

 

One is a lot better layed out and informative tho. I at least think the middleman sticky should be the account market sticky too.

 

How about we just edit the sticky title? For example:

Accounts can be recovered, even with a Middleman/Account Recovery Test

Still short and simple enough.

 

Replace account market sticky with mm section sticky both with your title.

 

That quick title fix should do the trick and I don't see why not - although people may not read the stickies, for those that do that may otherwise be coerced into thinking a recovery test will be helpful it will be useful for them.

 

I don't think this will help at all. Obviously the account can still be recovered, since the seller is providing the buyer the information; in turn the seller clearly has all of the required info to recover (assuming the recovery works). It is however a form of "peace of mind" for buyers simply knowing they have information that is valid, even if the seller recovers it down the road they now have a chance at recovering it back. I don't see this as helpful.

 

Valid points for sure. There is a thin line tho between having piece of mind and being naive. Right now i see people everywhere thinking your completely bullet proof after a recovery test and that's not ok in my world. Also i don't like the fact you see veteran sythers pushing for them in their threads it just sends a bad message over all to new users.

I guess my main point tho man is why does it mention recovery tests in the middle man section sticky but not in the account market sticky. That's what im trying to understand here mostly.

 

Even though it hasn't been a lot thus far, I have noted to every account buyer that I have MM'ed for that even if they get the correct info and the recovery test works; the accounts can still be recovered.

In the end, they want the additional peace of mind that:
1) The person didn't lie upfront about the information, showing a form of being genuine.
2) If it does get recovered, they can recover it back down the line. Or at least have a better chance of doing so.

I personally just don't see it being a needed change is all.

Correct me if I'm wrong , but I'm under the impression that when the original owner recovers to the creation ip any recover requests from other ips will be instantly declined no matter what. Making that piece of mind that you can recover down the line if it's recovered from you into just being naive to the actual facts and maybe it's because the information wasn't readily available.

Also still makes absolutely no sense to me how it's mentioned in the middle man section and not the account market section.

 

I support this idea, people asking for a recovery test is quite frustrating because it puts the seller's account at risk and no extra safety for the buyer really.

 

Personally I'd be fine wiping the entire account market off the face of sythe since its a hellhole worse than RSPS(Which is saying something).

I don't have an issue adding or moving a sticky to the forums there to tell people its a waste.
