New Rules for Guide and eBook Sales

We have added the following two rules for the Guide & eBook Sales section:

1. Guides cannot offer nothing more than "general advice" to help you obtain a goal - they must contain tried and tested methods with guaranteed results. If you purchase a guide, follow the steps in it, and do not achieve the advertised goal, you are encouraged to report the guide seller as you would any other scammer.
2. Guides cannot assume that you have an indefinite amount of time to work toward the advertised goal. For example, if you buy a guide on how to earn 5000 billion GP on Runescape, and it doesn't work, the author cannot use the defense that "you just need to give it more time" if they do not state an approximate time limit for how long following their guide will take.

If you find a guide that violates these rules that was posted before November 19, 2012, report it via Report a Spammer and the thread will be closed with no further consequences for the author.

If you find a guide that violates these rules that was posted after November 19, 2012, report it via Report a Scammer and it will be handled on a case-by-case basis from there.

Both seem like very reasonable rules. Good change.

 

Nice to see these additions, especially when it comes down to ' time to achieve target' etc.

 

I'm liking the second one, still a bit cloudy on the first one (As in I don't fully understand it).

 

Should make things fairer and more legit in the guides section. Nice update.

 

Basically the first one is that you can't sell a guide that gives advice instead of a guaranteed outcome.

 

Great rules, it should prevent some confusions.

Nice to see these rules being implemented, especially the first, prevents terrible guides being sold, especially those that promise a very aspiring result yet with low validity or possibility of achievement, such as cosrob's.

But you can still offer the guide for free, right?

 

If you're offering something for free, it doesn't belong in the market.

 

How would I go about reporting someone? I purchased a guide from a ogv member who made guarantees the guide would make X amount of money a hr and it didn't come close and shortly became saturated and pretty much unprofitable. I've contacted them numerous times yet they seem to think I do not deserve a refund. I am not sure how I can report him as far as showing proof the guide doesn't do what he said it would and doing that without leaking the guide.
