Hey, how about we spice up the forum a bit and let other games besides WoW, OSRS, and LOL have their moment too?

Sure, I totally get it. If you scroll down a bit, you'll find the section on other games and stuff.

But hey, this makes WoW/OSRS/LOL even more important, don't you think? Because if we limit ourselves and don't bring in more games, the Sith are going to get even bigger.

Hey, how about we think about something like the El Dorado or G2G system? Many people are already familiar with those sites and could adapt a similar system.

Hey, I just wanted to share an idea that came to me: how about we make some significant changes, but keep that unique SYTHE.

I would agree I would love to see more involvement in sections outside of the markets.
Adding a new format and or new market sections will only take away more from the forums feeling and move more towards those sites you referenced making Sythe more of a Marketplace rather then a community.

If there is a game that has a lot of interest already on this site that didn't have a section I could support that. But like that other user that was so dead set to add a GTA section, I don't think we have a high interest in it currently.

In reality whatever section gets added, it will just turn into a discord notice board.

Convert the Forum into a P2P Marketplace + Bolt on community Forum

Pros:
  • Compete with market leaders in P2P Marketplace
  • New revenue streams (commission, featured listings, seller subs)
  • Higher user trust (currently Sythe is just a notice board for discord shops... this would allow Sythe to maintain market dominations and also have a impact on scammers - yes scams will happen, but it won't be rinse and repeat as they won't be able to get verified to trade with in the P2P platform)
  • Better user experience (time and time, people complain about the selling threads this would solve the issue - only items listed in stock, clear individual listings (NO one thread suits every acc type))
  • Increases long-term onsite growth

Cons:
  • Requires development investment
  • Payment processing setup (this can be done out the box)
  • Potential user backlash (mainly from the people who dominate the current system)

Imagine a community driven PlayerAuctions, G2G or Eldorado, with integrations for a community style Sythe forum.

The PROS simply outweigh the CONS, but it all comes down to how the Owners think of Sythes current state, do they want the platform to grow and move with the times? Or will it fizzle out being the nostalgia machine it is. (with page long work intensive moderation)

Thank you for sharing your point of view. I really appreciate everyone's participation.

Yes, what I'm proposing isn't 100% perfect, but turning my idea into something better is also an option. I don't want this to be a P2P marketplace, but I would like it to not highlight only ORS, WoW, or League of Legends so much.

My intention is for us to have more direct participation from other games, not just leave them on a back page highlighting them as “other games,” implying that they are not the priority. There are good games on the market today that are not just OSRs and WoW, etc.

But these "other games", if popular will just turn into the same discord notice board spam as it is currently with OSRS.

I understand your point of view, but changing what Sythe is would, as you say, undermine what makes it unique.

Many users do consider it outdated, and that’s fair, but I doubt Richard would ever seriously consider a fundamental change. The last time a major redesign was proposed, there was a huge backlash. That was roughly 7/8 years ago, so reactions might be different today. Turning Sythe into another competitor to Eldorado, PlayerAuctions, or G2G is theoretically possible, and it would certainly have more authority than building a competitor from scratch. However, while gambling sites are spending thousands per month on ad banners, I don’t see any truly revolutionary shift happening. It's already a stable business as it is.

The communal aspect of the site has also declined significantly. Adding more features doesn’t necessarily translate into more engagement. Times have changed, and so has the way people use the internet. People don’t visit forums, niche sites, or blogs nearly as much as they used to. These days, the closest equivalents are apps like Discord and Telegram, where the infrastructure is far more advanced than what we “boomers” had in the past (e.g. MSN and Skype).

I do business across multiple platforms and games, not just RuneScape. Some customers from other gaming communities have commented that they don’t trust Sythe and see it as less secure, mainly because you’re effectively trusting random individuals and sending money directly rather than through structured payment processors. I won’t list all the reasons, but the feedback was insightful and highlights how expectations and trust models differ across gaming communities.

Edit: forgot to add;

Although many sections on sythe are inactive, there is still a community. Sythe has been around for a long time and has survived. Many other sites did not survive. Sythe is unique and still a stable business as it currently stands. I find sythe a unique breath of fresh air compared to other platforms I am on. Most other platforms it's just strictly business and there is no community aspect.

Liam summed it up nicely
