    New Desktop Computer

So, I recently decided I wanted a desktop computer at home, and considering the fact that I am already in possession of an i7 2600 CPU I have decided to build my computer around that CPU.

I also decided that it would be interesting to see if I could find all the parts for as cheap as possible or second hand.

I will now list images and products that I have decided on so far, these are still susceptible to change though.

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 (bought for 77.50 EUR, Saved me about 100 EUR because I bought it second hand

CPU (processor): i7 2600 (came out of a media computer I bought back in 2011)

RAM (memory modules): 2x2gb 1333mghz generic samsung ram (came out of my 2011 media PC) and 2x2gb 1600mghz Corsair vengeance RAM (bought it for 15 EUR second hand, saved me about 14 EUR)

CPU Cooler (water cooled): Cooler Master Seidon 120V Ver.2 (Bought it second hand for 25 EUR, saved 25 EUR because it costs 50 new.)

PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair CX600M (bought second hand for 35 EUR, usually costs 74 NEW)

    Computer Case: Undecided

GPU, graphics card (Graphical Processing Unit): undecided

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD (bought it from a classmate in 2015, works as a charm) + Kingston V300 240GB SSD (bought from a classmate for 40 EUR, saved me 30, newprice is 70 EUR) + Seagate SATA-300 1TB HDD (came out of my old 2011 media PC)

total spent: 192.50 EUR (only missing GPU + case)

    EDIT: 25-3-2016 15:36 GMT+1: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Fan-CP...802637?hash=item41822c1a4d:g:uQYAAMXQpPhTj-Al

I'm thinking about buying this CPU Cooler, opinions?

Seems like a decent mid-tier build. I didn't look up your motherboard model but if you're spending more than $90 on it, find a cheaper one. Your CPU is pretty old so it'd be silly spending a whole lot on a motherboard you might be replacing in the next 1-2 years anyway.

Not too sure where you're located in the world, but I'd say take a look over at /r/buildapcsales and also /r/hardwareswap over on reddit. I've picked up many great components from dirt cheap, whether it be second-hand or a crazy sale.

For GPU's, try looking for some B-Stock from EVGA and similar companies. Often times they will still honor their 1-2 year warranties and you end up getting your component for 25-50% off. Buddy of mine got a 970 for $225 not a week after I bought mine for $320 and I was so jealous.

I've had a lot of luck buying components off local classifieds like Craigslist and Kijiji as well. Got my 280X for $160 or something when they were going for $400 brand new.

Yeah, I bought the motherboard for 77.50 EUR, Saved me about 100 EUR buying a new one, this one leaves some room for expansion, I'll only be putting 8gb of ram in it for now, it'll have 2x2gb 1333mghz and 2x2gb 1600mghz.
the motherboard has 4 memory slots. the 2x2 1600mghz set cost me 15 EUR and is a set of: Corsair Vengeance LP CML4GX3M2A1600C9

The other set of 2x2gb 1333mghz is just a generic samsung set that came in the media PC I bought in 2011. (which is also where the CPU came from.

Aside from that I also managed to score a Corsair CX600M for 35 EUR (usually costs around 75 EUR)

I also managed to buy a water cooler that was only used once for half price, a Cooler Master Seidon 120V Ver 2. Cost me 25 EUR, Price of a new one is 54 EUR.

I have been looking at either a r9 270x or GTX 760, I could get either second hand with factory warranty for between 120-140 EUR.

Water cooling on that CPU is extremely overkill unless you plan on overclocking the shit out of it. Just buy an OEM fan for $10.

I mean yeah I guess lol. Personally I like to sell my entire build as one unit when I'm done with it without removing components, then use that to subsidize my next build. Had my current machine for 4 years now though and haven't needed to upgrade. That's how you know we've hit a tech wall :/ My build before that I had for 2 years before I wanted to upgrade.

I agree with the overkill with the water cooler but if you already have it why not.

That's a good point, and I wouldnt consider buying a new liquid cooler for this project, however, if I can find one second hand for the price of what a regular CPU Fan cooler would cost, why not?

Aside from that, I havent had my hands on a Liquid cooler before. So I'm curious what my personal experience will be with one.

Don't have it yet, but if I can't find one thats cheap, I'll probably just get a fan with heatsink.

I found a CPU Cooler that fits my needs, decided against water cooled because I couldn't find any cheap offers.

Isn't buying a used PSU generally a bad idea? Not bad mid-tier build

Depends entirely on the rail. Unless the person you're buying from stressed the shit out of the PSU, it's generally fine.

I wouldn't doubt the effectiveness of your build.

Try establishing a sense of speed, power + a mixture of storage compounds for the longevity of it's use.

In 10 years time when you want to turn it into a server you'd be proudly able to.
