No, I will not be doing any hardcore gaming besides botting which needs a good processor, cooling, and enough RAM.

I do not know nothing about computers which is why I am not arguing about whats better, etc. Kill dank is doing that for me and thanks so much for that :)

So by setting the affinity via the process manager for each application to use separate cores and only allowing some to use the virtual cores, you're saying you still won't take advantage of HT? Seems unlikely since I'm doing it right now with the Runescape client, Skype, and a collection of the pre-installed windows games.

He said he's looking to run 20+ bots. Good luck finding a $500 machine that can do that. If he's running that many bots, he'll need a good machine with a lot of ram (ddr3, not 5) and processing power. Plus, with that many bots he should be able to cover the price of the computer and then some. Buying any Sandy Bridge (aside from mobile ones) and not overclocking it seems foolish to me.

I never said you couldn't TRY to make use of HT with RuneScape, but it won't give you any noticeable/tangible benefit. Pretty much the ONLY place Hyperthreading shows any benefit whatsoever is things like encoding, compressing/decompressing large files, etc. As RuneScape falls under gaming, and HT shows no significant performance boost while gaming (it's actually been shown to negatively impact some games) it is safe to assume that it would have no benefit for botting purposes.

That coupled with the fact that I'm pretty sure the bot clients are not optimized for HT (programs that do show an increase in performance because of HT, are optimized for it) leads me to believe it's a waste of $100 if all he's going to be doing is botting. I mean really, 95% of neXus' userbase probably doesn't even know what HT is, muchless actually have a proc capable of using it. I don't see it as a feature that they'd all be demanding.

But you're missing the fact that he CAN utilize it with minimal effort. In the same way as I stated above. I made use of it and I was able to see how much processing power it was using per core with a CPU usage meter.

I maxed out my eighth core, then my seventh, then my third all at different times showing that I can utilize the virtual cores on their own.

Basically all you do is only allow certain bots to run on the virtual cores, thus separating the load and decreasing the load on the other cores, allowing them to run more bots. Since they won't run on the virtual cores on their own, you make them.
