Need help with my computer

My computer is slow, well it's not really slow, but it can barely handle 2 runescape clients with Skype and Google Chrome. I can't even run Black Ops 3 with 24 FPS. League I run at around 60+ or less. It sucks, I want to be able to stream and play games with no lag.

Here our my specs:
Processor: Intel Core i5-2380P @ 3.10GHz
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5
RAM: 8 GB
Motherboard: ASRock H61M-HVS
Power Supply: 600 Watts I think

All my Drivers are up to date or about to be (I have an update for my graphics card). If there is anything else you need I'll figure it out. My guess is I need more RAM and a better Processor, but I have no idea. Now the disk that came with my GTX 970, I haven't been able to use because my disk drive doesn't work currently. I have another one but I just haven't replaced it yet. So if you have any idea what it might be please let me know!

 

You should actually be able to run everything you want just fine. So, I'm guessing that either your computer is bogged by background processes (in which case I'd just recommend a reformat), or your computer is using Integrated Graphics and not your GPU. Your monitor is plugged into the GPU right? If not, plug it into the GPU and make sure your mobo is outputting through the card. You can do that in your BIOS.

8GB of RAM is fairly standard these days. My rig only has 8 as well. Unless your RAM is exceptionally low frequency, I don't see a problem. For streaming you'll want to up this to at least 12GB though. Your mobo might not like that a ton since I noticed it's a Micro ATX with only 2 RAM slots. You may need to upgrade, but let's get the rig working properly with what you've got first.

To stream and play Black Ops 3 with no lag you'll need a significant overhaul of your rig, so try to get it working at at least 40fps first on its own.

 

Blu is right, you should have no problem running 2 runescape clients without lag on your PC. Playing BLOPS 3 is a different story, that game has been plagued with problems on the PC and unless you've downloaded the newer patches then you'll experience a lot of stuttering and frame drops.

Have you run any virus scans? Also as blu stated, make sure your display is plugged into your GPU not your motherboard.

How could I make sure that it's going through my GPU and not my motherboard through BIOS? I'm not that computer smart . My computer does have a lot of programs I don't know if they are even useful or not. I got this computer from a friend about a year ago. He put the programs or the company he bought it from did. I can give a list of programs I have no idea what they are there for. I'd love to have some in depth, but I'd assume your busy and wouldn't want to sit there and try to help some random person XD. I could be completely wrong though I have no idea . Now with the reformatting I might do that I just need to buy an external to put all my shit on, I have a ton of things I don't want to lose so I'd first have to buy one. Also do you think running the the display drivers disk would help me? Now you're probably thinking, why is this a question the reason it is because I have the Nvidia GeForce Experience, and that gives me all my drivers and everything...But I don't think it actually gives the drivers for my graphics card as in the main ones. It mostly just fixes bugs...Is this the reason why I've had such a shit experience ? Also the other reason is because my disk drive is a dick and doesn't work. And yeah I'd much rather just to be able to play games without lag then be able to stream with no lag. Streaming was just something for the future really . When I first got BO3 I tried closing everything and running it and I still couldn't get over 24 FPS. Now that was on Christmas, I really haven't tried since and there have been patches to fix that stuff but I doubt it'll change. Whenever I play Multiplayer I get consistent frame drops but in Zombies I can stay usually at 24 FPS. No idea. Thanks for the response, hopefully you might be able to help more .

I'll have to run a virus scan, and I'll have to check if my monitor is plugged in correctly...I think it is. Also my PC is lagging a lot of the time. My usual set up is Skype, 2 clients, Google Chrome. Skype and Google Chrome are heavy things to keep on, Skype is there for a multitude of reasons and Google Chrome is there so I can stay sane while skilling on 2 accounts lol. I don't know what it could be...Maybe I'm missing something that's extremely obvious and I just don't see it :/. Thanks for the response, hope you and Blu can help more if possible >_<.

If you're computer is running through integrated graphics and not using your nvidia gpu, download nvidia control panel and it should be in the advanced setting somewhere. You can untick the graphics and replace it with your nvidia gpu

 

It is indeed, I double checked, unplugged everything, opened my tower and made sure I plugged it in correctly. Also it was from the start . But my GPU has 2 different places when you could plug in your monitor, I unplugged it from the 6 pin I think it's called and plugged it into the one that has just a - and those squares . I'm so dumb with this stuff haha.

 

Just regular OSRS clients, nothing special. Also I didn't buy the PC, my friend did, but that has a 550 TI in it. I bought the 970 and put it in myself.

 

Seeing as you installed it yourself, I just want to confirm - You plugged in both 8pin power connectors on the top of card itself right? Could be that the card is being throttled due to lack of power.

Also, I'd recommend running display driver Uninstaller and reinstalling your drivers fresh. Could be a conflict with the drivers for the 750ti if you didn't remove those.

The drivers for the 970 you can get directly from Nvidia . com, don't use the disk as those drivers will be severely outdated.

When you install the new drivers, do the advanced install and unchecked the Nvidia experience, its unnecessary and has been proven to actually cause frame drops in some games when running/installed.

 

I did everything you told me to do. I went inside my tower and double checked everything was correct, turns out there is 2 6 pin ports not 8 pin and I was using both of the 6 pin plugs that were already being used from my power supply, but I switched to the ones that came with my 970. I'll have pictures of my old plugs and the ones that came with the 970, I have no idea if it matters, but it looked like the plugs that were apart of my power supply, were copper. I don't know if copper is used anymore for things like this but that's what it looked like to me. I did the DDU and when reinstalling my drivers I unchecked the GeForce Experience. Now for the results, I can run BO3 with roughly 45-60 FPS instead of you know 24 FPS without a ton lag, but the thing is when I opened Skype it all went to shit. I keep getting consistent frame drops and horrible spikes of 1-10 FPS. Everything is all over the place and doesn't feel fluent anymore. I mean the 45-60 FPS was a nice change, I had frame drops still but not as bad. I could actually shoot people and get kills XD. Now the reason I have Skype open, well I have 2 open, one is for a job and the other one is my personal that I use to talk to friends and such. I would close Skype but there's a whole long story behind it, if you're curious I could let you know, I just don't wanna put my personal business out there . So is there anything I can do about that? So far my clients + Skype call + Google Chrome with 40+ tabs is working flawless (Yes 40 tabs...Another Long story. PS: I don't run BO3 with anything but Steam ofc and Skype, no Google Chrome.). So it definitely helped and I really appreciate it. I would have been shit out of luck if I didn't ask for help. I would have bought a $300+ processor before I needed one. If you want my settings for BO3 I can get them for you if you'd like. If there is any other advice, opinions, questions or anything just ask and I'll try to answer as best as possible .

Sounds like your issue is primarily bo3, and that's likely caused by your cpu. It's definitely an older one and could be having trouble keeping up with the gpu, causing a bottleneck.

 

You need to have a seriously terrible CPU for it to bottleneck the GPU, unless there's some issue with the CPU itself it shouldn't be bottlenecking. That specific model's launch date was 4 years ago.

 

And BO3 is hardly 4 months old. It could be taxing the CPU.

Not to mention that cpu only supports pci-e 2.0 so it's also running an older architecture.

 

So what would you recommend?

 

Unfortunately your options are fairly limited with the 1155 socket, but if you have $200 to spare, you could upgrade to a i5-3550 unless you would rather do a full Chipset upgrade, which obviously would be more expensive.

 

I'm dumb, what a full chipset upgrade? And I'll look up the i5-3550, even though I don't have the money atm

 

Meaning you would have to buy a new motherboard, cpu, and possibly RAM
