Need help heading in the right direction

For a while now I've been thinking about what to do with my life, and a few months back I was watching tv for around 2 hours straight. As I was watching commercials, I began to think about aspects of it, like "who is the target audience?" and "is this good enough to succeed in its goal of selling a product/advertising a show". Since then, I can help but ponder thoughts like these every time I see an advertisement, whether it be on tv, before a video, and online ad, or a billboard. With a lot of thinking about it (months, and constant thought several times throughout each day) I have come to a conclusion. If I could in anyway be a part of making advertisements or any other way of marketing things to people and do it as a career, I would be content with my life. I looked into programs around my area, but there are absolutely none, and my school HAD a class for it, but of course, at the last minute, they tell me my registration is null and void due to the the abolishment of the program from lack of funding. I really feel this is something I would like to pursue, anyone out there have some tips as to how i could start off? Anything would help, even some online things (please, no crap websites/videos, something that makes sense and is actually useful). Really appreciate those who post and would like to say thank you in advance.

The leading advertisers in the industry didn't go to advertising schools- they came up with new methods of adverts that could be applied to situations and venues that otherwise didn't exist.

The easiest way to try your hand out in advertising is becoming a Club Promoter (once you're of age).

You get paid a percentage of the tickets you sell, or people that show up for a given night. Essentially your job would be to advertise a certain event or venue so that people would want to go check it out. That's where your creative side comes in! :)

These kind of jobs are easily found on craigslist for any major city that has clubs/bars/theatres/etc.. in it.

Also, social media advertising is becoming one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Develop your social network and you may find someone offering you a job to promote or advertise their product.

    Best of luck,

Just start looking in for Ad contests, so then you can show quality work as an example of what you bring to the table. Also, an internship to a company in the promotion dept. would be good, you could then apply for a job there. Hope I helped
