Well, I was using the computer today and all of the sudden the computer just shut off for no apparent reason. It was a nice day out so the weather could not have effected it. I am not sure of the specs because it is old and it does not turn on. I have tried switching the power cable that runs from the back of the desktop into an outlet. It is an Hp computer and it has worked for many years. If anyone can give me an explanation on how to save the work on the hard drive that would be very useful. I need the information that is on the hard drive and I hope it is the power box inside the computer. It just happend a few minutes ago and before going to go get it fixed I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a way to fix it.

Thank you, I appreciate it =]

Yeah, just put it in your other computer, make sure you put it in right so it doesnt delete anything on it :S.
And if its fried, your SOL, cause then you wont be able to get anything.

kk Thanks everyone. I was able to save the work on the Hd. I appreciate the help. I thought that if you took the Hd out of one computer and put it into another you would have to format it.

How old exactly is it? If it's 5 years or older you may need to replace the MoBo battery.

When Comps Get Old They Go Retarted

If there is a power switch at back of comp and front turn off one at back, unplug cable turn on switch the plug back in and press button at front of comp
hope it helps

Umm get like geek squad to help you figure out the problem, if it's the power supply just replace those their quite cheap, or if it's an old computer, just get a new one :/

you might have a virus that switches off your computer before you can do anything, including going into safe mode to fix it. What you have to do is get another PC and put your hard drive into that one and get onto that computer with your hard drive and save your work to an external hard drive. If you don't know how to do this i suggest you use a professional like geek squad or any computer handy man

Was the computer proped against a wall? If so you've melted your CPU - gf =z.
