Maya 8.5, cinema 4d, mudbox, blender 3d, 3ds max plenty more

 

go with Maya for map-making, you can't go wrong with it, plus if you have experience you could create incredible maps.

 

Download it from a Sharez/warez site, I can give you a few if you'd like.

T.ED Terrain Editor 5.01, its only a trial version but its quite good.
