    My Computer Turns Itself Off?

This is been happening since Day 1 with my computer.

    Whenever I use Runescape/WOW/Msn Messenger
my computer just switches itself off.

    This is extremely frequent.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

    Thanks.

    Your computer might be overheating.
Or that your computer is infested with a virus.

Ok let me give you an intelligent answer.

Your computer is overheating. Computers will automatically shut off if they get to hot.

To fix this problem do this:

    1. Check if you hear your computer fan running.

    2. If not open the case, there should be a wire connected to the fan and there should be a connection on the motherbour were you can plug it in. so plug it in.

    3. If the fan is working then clean out the dust in your computer (dont use a vacumm)

I've seen some malware that does this. If it is malware/trojan it will initiate the 30 second shutdown upon detection. You need to issue a Start>Run>Shutdown -A command and that will kill the shutdown process when it starts. Get Adaware and run it in short bursts - like let it catch 1-20 items, stop the process, remove the items and start over. Keep doing this until no item are found. Any time during the scan when the shutdown window appears quickly click on Start>Run and run the Shutdown -A command so the cleaning process can continue.

I suppose it would be possible for the virus to use a force shutdown procedure.

    Plenty of possibilities:

    Heat related issue.
    Hardware issue or error.
    Computer virus.
    Issue with operating system.

Some computers some with thermal sensors (i have an emachine with a thermal sensor) what you need to do is boot your computer, so into the system setup, usually its f2, check for a "hardware monitor" option, if you cant find it, it may not be equipped with your computer.

If anything was recently add to your computer (hardware related) try removing it, it may be conflicting with your current hardware.

some computer virus's are designed to shut the computer off when certain programs are executed.

if all else fails, it may be windows OS, that may be doing it. something in windows may be missing or corrupt thats conflicting with the programs your trying to open. You might have to reinstall windows.

possible hardware that would crash your computer:

RAM, CPU, Motherboard, and the power supply.

    hope this helped.

Dont think that the chances of this being a virus is extremely low.

When a CPU gets to a certian tempature the computer will shut down. and the CPU will get hotter when playing games

Yes, because they're more CPU intensive.

check your BIOS because i think you have your setting for "Automatic Shut-Down" Temperature at a low setting...
this causes the computer to shut down everytime it hits like 30 degrees Celsius.

ok first make sure you computer isnt sitting on a carpet second buy some canned air and give it a good cleaning, im talking fans psu and everything, then check your event viewer control panel>administrative tools>event viewer check for errors drivers may cause problems but its unlikely, the most likely cause is overheating thought as afore mentioned

this usually means that your computor is missing a file or doesnt have the up-to-date downloads. try to download the new versions of java and scripts for the other things.
