My computer is having issues! please help!

I don't know what is wrong with my computer but I think it doesnt like me! When I boot up it gives me the HP screen with all the f1 f2 f3 buttons and such. So it stays like that for a really long time and I thought I would try F2 "startup check" so I do that. I try a hard drive self-test, and a window comes up and it says:
    (QUICK)
TEST EXECUTING (PRESS ESC TO CANCEL)
    00% COMPLETED
The windows shows for 1-2 seconds then closes, so it doesnt even start the self-test.
And then it says "TEST STATUS : NO IDE DEVICE."
Does this mean my computer can't even detect the hard drive?? I looked at it and it seems to be attached pretty good.
    Please someone help me!

Hmmm... I wouldn't take the chance to open a laptop. I'd go to a local shop and ask them to take a look at it.

Believe it or not, this problem just occurred with my laptop.
Come to find out, I blew out my hard drive.
My suggestion is to have a professional look at it.

Go to the BIOS... I believe if you press F1 for "SETUP" or something similar to it.

Look around, you'll see somewhere an option that allows you to enable/disable hard drive... Try enabling it (should be enabled to begin with...) and it should work.
