Multiple Signatures

Basically what I am suggesting is a system in which when posting, a user is given the option to choose from different signatures that they own to be used in that specific post. If I have 2 very well made signatures that I enjoy and appreciate the art work, why can't I be able to display both? The answer: size restrictions. The solution: being able to have 2 separate signatures and choosing which one to display on which post. How many people have requested or even made several signatures, each one better than the last, but like more than one of them? In the status quo, you have to choose 1 and stick with it until you change it manually again. Why shouldn't users be given the opportunity of having more than one signature?

For example:

On the Neopets forums, you are given the option when replying or posting a topic to choose which signature you wish to use on the bottom of the reply. Default is your original signature, the other 2 are signature spaces that I have purchased.

Notice that I said I had purchased the signature spaces. Of course such a perk should be just that, a perk. I would suggest making it a $200+ donor perk, and having the ability to have up to 3 signatures (1 original, another at $200, and another at $300).

The qualifications for signatures and number of signatures are not set in stone and I am willing to listen to further improvements. I will update the OP to respond to any inquiries and respond on the thread aswell. I don't see why this wouldn't be possible unless it is not possible on vBulletin, which in that case I guess you could just scrap this whole idea.


TL;DR

Where it says "Show your signature", add an option to choose which signature you want to display such as "Show signature 1" "Show signature 2" etc..

 

Don't see this being used enough to warrant dedicated time to code for it, especially when things like notifications when quoted haven't been developed yet.

 

I support this as a donor perk, i believe site donors deserve more.

 

Well how would it be used if it doesn't exist? Yes, if this is approved it will be added to the queue of approved suggestions, but time restrictions aside, do you think it is a good idea. You can't stop good suggestions just because other good suggestions haven't been instituted yet, it's irrational and discourages future suggestions to help the forums.

Custom made site tools need to have good reasons for it to be produced. I just don't see a good reason for this to be a thing.

I agree, I think it would be a nice added perk for $100 donors because they don't get anything extra.

 

so essentially you want UIs for under your posts? sounds fine to me. and presumably you'd want similar options for UIs as well? also sounds fine to me.

but yeah, this is gonna be really low on the to-do list...

 

Support, give an option when you post to show your first signature, your second, etc. Would be a nice higher donor perk

 

Basically the way UIs alternate, but instead with your entire signature and being able to choose which one to display (randomness would be fine too). I don't really think it would be that hard to code for if such coding already exists for UIs.

 

This would be useful for users who trade in different markets, who could alternate signatures specific to the market they're posting in.

 

Surely a universal signature that displays ALL services a user provides is better than tailored one to be used in certain situations to only display a select few services offered?



I mean sure, it could be done but I don't really see it getting much use. Signatures are a thing you can easily alter yourself anyways so I don't really see the need for such a feature. In the case of UIs they must be uploaded to the server and approved, there is a bit of work required by other parties so having multiple UIs that rotate really is quite different to having signatures that rotate.

 

I had in mind more specific additions to a universal signature, like current buying/selling prices, etc.

It wouldn't make a startling difference in efficiency but as previously stated on this thread it's a nice perk for donors, I think.

 

It is indeed a good extra feature, I support it, but I'd like to see notifications when quoted first.

 

I mean, you could argue that signatures in the first place are not really needed and are more of an aesthetic thing. So in a sense, yes it is really just for aesthetics and looking nice, but that's the same for UIs too. There isn't much "use" for UIs either, but hey there they are.

And in response to the manually doing it, it would be a really big hassle to have your signatures saved and having to manually switch every time you post on a different thread. A pain in the ass in layman's terms.



Also finally, I would appreciate a response from actual coders whether it may be for Sythe or just people with knowledge on coding about how long this would take to code. I know for a fact a majority of people talking about taking a long time to code have probably never coded anything in their life. Don't speak on an issue you do not understand. I could be wrong and it could take a while to code, but that isn't currently known so that can't really be an argument in the opposition.

This makes no sense. Signatures are saved on their own and just appended to your post when you request the page. What you are requesting is literally getting rid of your signature and putting it in the post instead.

The hacky way of doing it would be to encode something into the end of the post to determine which signature is displayed. The correct solution is to add a column to the posts table that controls which signature is displayed. That is unlikely to happen.

Then you actually have to save the signature which would require additional columns or maybe tables or again hacky methods. The hacky methods would be a security hole so they really shouldn't be used.

tl;dr: likely too annoying to do for little benefit
