The voting is biased, and it always will be, but at least hear me out. What would you guys think about a suggestion where a member has to make a certain amount of constructive posts in a section to be eligible for winning that sections prize. Just saying this because Jake Kastle has made a load of good quality posts this month in the Runescape section, yet Delta Squad has made 8 posts in that section, all in the last 2 days, and is winning the MOTM section for it, with a few members having changed their vote to him. I'm not whining because I'm not winning, just it's more of a friend/bandwagon job than whoever actually deserves it the most. It seems that people only read the first page, as __ posts spread over a month is always a lot better than 7 in 2 days, especially when they're better constructed, as most of them are trolls such as in these few below.

I'm not trying to be offensive to delta, I'm just saying there should be some fairness. Thought i'd ask for some feedback in here before I posted a suggestion about it, but seriously if he wins with posts like that making the majority of his seven in there this month, I'm out, as it just proves that popularity is what wins, not dedication.

Thanks
Jack

I agree with you, to an extent:
- Someone who has not made any posts of quality, nor has contributed to the section really (and barely even made any posts there) I think should not be the winner.

However, on the other hand:
- I also feel that it should be the members' decision to pick who they like, of course these votings are biased and always will be; Back in the day, I even remembering people like Plznate asking everyone to vote for them, and such; There is not much that can be done about it.

That is my 2cents, really, can't really decide on which side to take on this one.

At the end if the day people are always going to bandwagon and vote for friends no matter what we do. If we decide who's allowed to win then that takes away the whole point in people voting in the first place.

It's only meant to be a bit of fun and not to be taken too seriously. I understand your concerns but unless someone is cheating/asking around for votes then they're entitled to win.

Unfortunately it will always be the case that the person who puts in the most effort in a section wont always win, but it is only a bit of fun.

This. It shouldn't be taken too seriously.

If they didn't post much but they were good quality I wouldn't be bothered, but this is just immature spam that's being voted for, 'cut my wrists' is an infractable post, hardly helpful. It's not spam forum..

This. It shouldn't be taken too seriously.

It IS intended for fun, but hey:

Imagine you dedicate lots of effort and work to a section, and when there's a vote for that section, someone who barely made any contributive posts and posted around 10 times in the section in the whole month overall. How would you feel? I understand it's fun, but seeing how biased and unfair these votes may be at times, I actually feel that in some certain cases it causes more harm than joy and fun.

If you work hard and dedicate your free time to something and some other kid who didn't even TRY "scoops the prize" from you, would you really be able to upkeep your morales and dedication? I don't think so.

And about the fairness of the voting:
If I wanted to, I could simply kindly ask people who I've MM'd for to vote for me. In the last 2 days only I have MM'd for 8-10 members. Now imagine, how swiftly would this be able to affect other people? Someone saw me posting, doesn't really know me, but sees I have 10 votes already, why not vote for me too? And I could gather many many votes, without even contributing (just by MM'ing). Would that be fair? And that's just the last 2 days of MM'ing for me.

I understand it's about the fun, but meh...

Nothing against Delta, but I completely agree. If he actually tried, I'd say, yeah whatever; But he clearly isn't even trying to contribute.

I have posted on RuneScape a lot too, probably on 80% of the threads and I don't really mind not getting any votes. But again, I agree that people who did no posts or useless posts shouldn't win them but there is nothing you can do to stop it. Setting requirements on them wouldn't be a good idea, as Roary said.

At the end of the day if you enjoy helping out and contributing in a section then it shouldn't take winning a competition that was intended as fun to determine whether or not you continue to..

If someone is asking for votes to gain an unfair advantage then provide proof and PM it to me and we'll gladly disqualify them for a couple of editions. We tried anonymous voting but it turned out much the same, if you have suggestions on how it should be run you can leave feedback for next months.

It's not his fault if people want to vote for him. As for infraction worthy posts, they'll be dealt with seperately.

Yes, but look at this from another point of view; Say you were contributing for fun, and saw, that some random person posting random crap in the forum you tried helping in was acknowledged and noone even realised you were there; Regardless of the fun you had helping these people, wouldn't you feel hurt a bit? I wouldn't personally, and probably you wouldn't be hurt either, but trust me, not everyone is like that.

It's not the question of continuing or quitting anyway; It's the fact, that if you see that shit is appriciated, why would you give it serious work and not post crap that was acknowledged, yourself? Isn't this in a way setting a bad example to the community?

90% of Sythe users contribute well in one section or another and even if it was based on contribution, all but one would lose.

There is still a great difference in who you lose it, in my opinion. For the people who care about this title, losing to such a poster is like comapring Real Madrid losing the Spanish Cup final to Barcelona, or to CD Alavés (3rd division team). See the difference?

At the end of the day, if you do care about winning, it does matter who you lose to. A closely as good opponent as you, or better, it's easier to lose to, than to someone of much lower calibre.

It may be only me, but that's the attitude that I learned from team sports.

Bottom line is, I think a 'background check' could be implemented on winners; Whether it was deserved at all. It would bring controversy, if you claimed someone didn't contribute enough, but meh, it's my best idea.

Edit: Not the best example to compare sports with an online community's fun based voting title, but meh; It's what came to my mind.

Not sure if srs or just newfag...
I was actually infracted in that contest by n4n0, because he's a cunt waffle.

Isn't this for the community? Can't I vote for whoever I want?

Just report them then. As what Add My Msn said, this isn't exactly a 100% serious thing and it's more for a bit of fun.

Also with anonymous voting the number of voters noticeably diminished.

It's a popularity contest, always has been, always will be. Don't take it any more seriously than that.

Maybe we should just get rid of the competition altogether then. If it's just for fun, why stop people from voting for someone to get the same position twice in a row and just let them 100% vote for who they want then? It doesn't change the fact that it's just going to be a constant swap of who's popular instead of who truly deserves to be the winner anyways.

It's true that the person who likes contributing will do it whether or not they win a competition but then what's the point of the competition if those same people won't have a chance in hell to win? Why not change it to the most popular member of the section of the month? It would hold some truth then.

The point behind this thread is one of the reasons I choose not to vote. Why bother thinking over who I truly feel deserves each spot if someone can make 6+ troll posts in a given section on the last day of the month and win just because they are more popular?

The people who say it's just for fun are those same people who absolutely love seeing their friends get the title, whether they deserve it or not, month after month.

Even though nothing can really help the state of it, I'm behind you on this one Jack.

Voting only started last night, there's two weeks left. Current votes are in no way a representation of who will win. I don't think I've ever seen anyone win who doesn't deserve to.

The competition is a laugh.

The competition isn't a joke - it takes hard work and planning from people to make it work and that should be appreciated. It's the people who are voting for people you don't want to win that you think are jokes. I hope.

Meh, if people don't like it then why don't they leave feedback on the results thread like we ask, it wont change otherwise.

The Community Events Team put alot of efforting into creating these sort of events. the least you could do is appreciate that fact and just take part for a bit of fun. no need to turn this into 'fucking popularity contest'.

Show some support for fellow sythe members instead of being faggots all your lives.

Maybe I've just been delusional everytime then. >_>

It's not about me not wanting some of the voted people to win nor is it that I don't appreciate the competition, it's that a lot of the votes really are just a joke/popularity contest. It's more of a wasted effort looking at that because there really is nothing you can do to change that without losing participation.

Meh, if people don't like it then why don't they leave feedback on the results thread like we ask, it wont change otherwise.

I did leave feedback though. I personally think it needs a different title to better represent the whole thing or maybe it's just a waste of time. I even gave a reason as to why I think that way.

There's no way to get rid of bias anyways, about the only thing I can agree on.
