There are a lot of types of hackers, so it depends which you mean. A lot of hackers who get through network encryptions and all that are usually also good reverse-engineers, in which knowledge of very low-level languages and use of memory/file systems is essential (mostly ASM, possibly something like MSIL, for java you'd need to be familiar with bytecode).

Again, going along with your general pretext, a good "coder" nowadays would most likely prefer and might actually work more in higher-level languages due to the emergence of mobile computing and web applications. In some ways a good "hacker" and a good "coder" actually have very opposite skill sets. Just, again, very generally. You need to be more specific with your question.

Depends on what and who you're hacking for. If you're doing application cracking for a hacking group, a lot of them are actually sponsored, sometimes by the software developers themselves. It's a conspiracy theory, but some believe that heavy software developers actually encourage piracy in some ways to get the word of their product out there to people who would otherwise not be interested in trying a trial product. Not really an effective marketing strategy imo but whatever, to each their own.

Python is mainly a scripting language, but doesn't necessarily have to be used as one. It's fairly unique in that context.

    Most useful language to know?

For about a year now I've really been getting into programming, it's just such a joy whenever a project is finished and working as you want it. But I'm trying to look into the 'business-site' of programming. I want to make some money on the side, working for myself(for example programming for people here on Sythe, I mean without a Boss (own hours, own clients...) and I am not sure which language is the best to focus on to do so.

    Any advice?

There's a few hundred devices running Java for every man, women, child and their pet dog in my entire country.

Hell, even if we assume that we have all the Java-run devices that we'll ever need in the world, who the hell is going to maintain all that shit?

Java would honestly be your best bet. Whoever said java isn't used is..... not very informed. C++ is also a huge one, but I would advise against using it as your first language. Transition from java to C++ is also pretty nice as syntax is pretty similar. Just my personal experience with programming and my university courses.

    Java.
You can pretty much do anything with java.
For example, instead of learning php, you can just take your java knowledge and create java server pages (jsp).
Java is also easy to learn in my opinion.
