I'm not sure I think slayer is still a viable option if you can stick with it. The problem with slayer is you have to be committed because the 1st whip will be expensive, the first 10 will decrease dramatically, and by the time 100 are out it won't be nearly as "set you up for life financially" expensive.

If you don't commit your time, lot's of it, to be among the first people to get key slayer levels (65 for d chains, 75 for d mauls, 85 for whip, 90 for dbows, etc...) the time you did put in will be wasted and would have been better spent getting other things up.

For the people saying nobody can afford it, you have to understand that when people hit 55 mage gold will be POURING into the economy, I promise 85 slayer takes ALOT longer than most people to think to get and by the time someone hits 85 slayer the gold will be plentiful. Also most thieving brings gold DIRECTLY into the economy and tons of people will be leveling thieving. Combine this with general store sales, monster drops, quest rewards, minigame rewards (pest control brings a ton of gold into the game, so does things like stronghold of security).

@sheymyster you make some good points but I still think slayer is still worth it especially for people like me who plan on maxing there combat.

Yes of course MMA, in the long run and if you play enough even in the short term, slayer will be profitable. The best thing about slayer is that it will ALWAYS be profitable, which is something that cannot really be said for such things as fishing and wood cutting. I just fear that a lot of people who respond to "what will you do" threads with answers such as "I'm going to slay for miiilllzzzzz!" are in for a rude awakening. Slayer is SLOOWWWW, even slower than you can imagine because in 2007 there weren't many streamlined ways to train it. There weren't the new super high slay masters, there weren't as many creatures to kill, or high powered "easymode" weapons to use so that you could just stay at a certain strong NPC forever til your task is done.

ALSO, at the beginning people won't be able to afford cannons and surely not the mass amount of cannonballs it would take to quickly level slayer through the low-mid levels (say to get to 65 quickly).

My overall point is, Yes slayer will be profitable if you level it quick enough, and if you don't, it will still be profitable forever and always. People will always need slayer items and it's something that will be very useful, plus getting the high combat quickly by training just slayer will come in very handy when people can craft black dhide and you can kill black dragons all day like a boss. Or bosses such as the kalphite queen and chaos elemental, etc........

BUT, will it be quick money? No, not unless you are willing to devote SEVERAL longs nights to training it solely and without distraction.

Thinking out side the box the first people that could craft dragon amulets and onyx amulets would make a lot of cash. No where as near as the first 85 slayers though.

Everything is going to be very high in price to start off with.

I honestly think Hunter, Slayer and Runecrafting will come out on top though.

Fishing and Herblore will most likely be the highest earners during the early stages.

Once you're a high level, slaying is easily the most profitable! I remember back in the day getting rune drops and getting so happy because that was so much money back then... Man i'm gonna love these servers <3

What is going to happen is the same thing that has happened to every other game that just comes out. People will buy gold from chinese farmers for enormous amounts of cash to get started. Look at D3 as a prime example. No one is really going to chop 20k yews for a whip unless they are just plain broke.

Best thing to do when they start the servers would be sell every ounce of gold you get and buy it 2 weeks later for pennies what you sold it for.

I agree with thieving being one of the best skills to level. It is one of the only skills, other than magic and combat, that brings money directly into the game. However, I have yet to see one person other than you mention it. We actually need some thieves to get things going.

As for high alching, I know people can bring in millions with it, but you would need nats and items to alch (most likely yew longs). You would have to bot nats first and then woodcutting and finally fletching. Then you would have to string the bows, which would require flax and crafting them into bowstrings. This could take sometime unless someone were botting multiple accounts.
Hunter will probably a lot more profitable once the economy gets running (a couple of weeks/months, depending on the player turnout). Until then, I can't see hunter as a big player. Most hunter items are just not necessities like fishes or logs. Runecrafting will be profitable, but you will need to mine your own pure ess and get a nature talisman.
Well, the chinese farmers will have to farm their money too, so no. It would take the chinese some time to cut those yews. Plus, we don't know if they will even buy membership at the beginning.

I haven't seen crafting be suggested? D'hide sets, Jewelry paired with mage to enchant? I think that may play a big roll after a month or so when people need these items. As most people will be going for fletching/woodcutting fishing/cooking slay hunt or rc.
