Mosque near Ground Zero

Considering that the building of Park51 has cleared legal obstacles, I presume that the construction of the community center will continue. If they relent to the public outcry, it will only be a victory for the Islam extremists responsible for the September 11 attacks.

Not to mention, the intentions for building this edifice, are pure; they proceed with Park51, not only to provide a place of worship for Muslims, but also as a tribute and memorial to those who lost their lives.
 
Are they allowed to build one? Sure, it's America.

I think it's a bad, bad idea for the construction of this mosque to go ahead -- particularly because of the location; close to one of the most iconic places of America. Those who say that others should allow the building to continue in the name of tolerance make me laugh. No non-Muslims are allowed in Mecca. I will not stand being lectured by someone who prays five times a day to an icon of discrimination on tolerance.
 
We have to look at it from both point of views, do you all think we're permitted to build a Statue Of Liberty or any other type of American monument in Iraq or Afghanistan?

You all know if we were to do this it would cause multiple riots and one of Allah's disciples would walk in there and earn his rivers of honey and 72 virgins.
 
Completely protected by freedom of religion, but such a terribly problematic move (if they do choose to do it).
 
I see no problem why they wont build a mosque there either. A large amount of people that died on 9/11 were islam. Probably not the majority, but there were certainly a few hundred islam people died in the incident. Not to mention the plane hijackers.

You get the best result by tolerance, and because some indoctrined jahid from afganistan tries to take down 2 skyscrapers is still no reason to reject all islamic believe. I think in terms of psychology that it would be good to build a mosque at ground zero, but also aswell a christian church. But if its not the psychological viewpoint of building one there i see no other reasons why it should be build there.

Manhattan is a metropol, where people go shopping, go to work, and where people going to watch wallstreet. Why in the hell would you build a holy house there anyway, christian or islam.

Why dont they just create something like a iraqi town (like china town) so they can build one there. Its like the government dont know how to repair new building blocks at ground zero so they just decide to build a mosque.
If they do, they should build a church their to.

What i really hate is that there are a majority of people that educate upon the 9/11 disaster. The main reason why usa has gone to war with iraq is because the us supported it. All the citizens were like screaming yes yes...only by the viewpoint of killing terrorism. And it resulted in a 1945 nazi germany landscape of which almost anything is destroyed.

The us has fought to many pointless wars imo.
Ofcourse you repay the people that caused the disaster, so if al quaida can organize a assault so can we,

There should be some kind of TF141 team like in mw2.
 
Well I personally don't think any religion should build any sort of building near it. I know it sounds odd but I feel that this would be, I guess 'fair' in a way for all religions so that None is discriminated against.

Side Note: In my history class there were several Muslims that were AGAINST the building of a mosque near ground zero. I don't recall the exact reasoning but I think it had to do something with respect of some sort. I'm not exactly sure but it has some relevance to respect.

That's ridiculous, Islam is a religion of peace, comparing it to a bully is utterly ignorant of you.
 
Our country originated on freedom which includes freedom of religion. Pilgrims left England to escape religious persecution since America is the only country on the planet that you are allowed to practice whatever religion you choose as long as it does not harm other people.

In this case, the Muslims did hurt many people although it was not the religion itself, but a portion of those who practice it. We can not descriminate against an entire religion and tell Muslims they can not build a mosque when there are Catholic churches all around the same area and remain a 'free' country. Since this country is based on religious freedom, we will need to accomodate all religions equally even when situations don't seem fair or just.

A good example of this is Timothy McVeigh, a Roman Catholic that regularly attended daily Mass at Good Shepherd Church in Pendleton, New York. McVeigh was convicted of detonating a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people. It was the deadliest act of terrorism within the United States prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks. He is one of many people who practice the Catholic faith but Catholics are not held responsible for his actions as Muslims should not be held responsible for the September 11 acts of terrorism.

Park51 is not only a mosque, but a community center that includes a 500-seat auditorium, theater, performing arts center, fitness center, swimming pool, basketball court, childcare area, bookstore, culinary school, art studio, food court, September 11 memorial, and prayer space that could accommodate 1,000–2,000 people. Ground Zero will not be visible from Park51. If this is what they want to build, we should not revoke them from their rights.

Wrong? No one really knew about it except the near-by residences. It didn't get international until the media hit it.

Essentially, the belligerence and apathy towards followers of Islam, has been nurtured by politicians and exploits the intrinsic human reaction to fear. The issue of national security has been used time and time again to serve one purpose: obtaining support, votes, and attention from irrational fear. Plain and simple, this is just a vehicle for mudslinging and to instill trepidation for one's own agenda and ulterior motives.

Beginning with criticism from conservatives stating that blew Park51 out of proportion as a desecration of Ground Zero, ultimately media coverage added gasoline to the inferno. Misshapen beliefs and groundless accusations have taken hold in many Americans, creating hostility and an uncanny abhorrence for Muslims.

Ultimately, Park51 should be built, if only to display fortitude and strength in the face of adversity and a benevolent representation of a moderate religion that has been twisted into a blight and a menace.

Islam is a religion of peace, and worship. You are as ignorant as your post. Extremists are those who are too fundamental in their beliefs. Everyone wants the world to be peaceful. If the whole world had one religion, it'd be easier, but that's not the case because we all have different aspects. Extremists aren't just muslim.
Not all extremists are muslims.
Not all muslims are extremists.

I'll assume you're a white christian, as 83% of Americans are Christian. Haven't you forgotten the horrid actions of white christians? Do you remember the KKK? The KKK was an extremist group that would kill and blow up churches, religious schools, etc. Do you see anyone discriminating you because of that? No. But you see people discriminating muslims/arabians for being muslims. Some of you may not think this happens a lot, but I'm an american, dad is Saudi Arabian, and I get called Bin Laden, Terrorist, and harsh stereotypical and racial names. Some of you may not understand. Not only do they have EVERY right to build their mosque, but they have every right to build ANYTHING they want in that land. If there was a large church built there, there would not be a problem, but when a mosque is built, it's a problem? Did you even know that there were at least 25 muslims killed in 9/11? 4 of them had unborn children, and one of them was patiently waiting as she was expecting her child in early October.

Did you live in the time when the KKK was at its prime? I doubt it, you don't know what people thought about them at that time. The KKK is almost dead, and Al-Qaeda is well alive.

Attacking the World Trade Center was an attack on the American economy, the Pentagon on the American military, and what was suppose to be the White House, an attack on the American government.

What's there to doubt about? My mother is american, my father is Saudi, and I was born and have lived here all my life. All that is different between myself and most others, is my dark skin. If you are, or even look like an arabian, you will usually be stereotyped, and that's the problem here in the US.

I realize that, but people think These terrorists were trying to kill americans and christians. If they were true muslims, they wouldn't kill an innocent man, ever. Who the hell would kill innocent people, and muslims besides extremists.
 
I think it's fine. There being a mosque there doesn't affect me whatsoever, and I really couldn't care either way. :huh:
