MMK to shut down current 3rd party clients

Meh, if they don't have any violations then MMK won't do shit, fucking old fart.

 

Here's my take on it from a logical P.O.V. I believe OSB pays Jagex x amount to essentially use jagex's property, 'aka runescape,' to promote their client; OSbuddy. So, since OSbuddy pays jagex, and they probably have contracts, etc... to legally show the transactions, then the issue is very likely a fiscal issue. Would it be fair for OSbuddy to be paying premiums to Jagex to ''host'' their client, while runelite charges no premium to its members AND is NOT penalized by jagex?So essentially i'm trying to say it's not fair that OsB would be locked into a contract of having to pay Jagex y over X amount of years, while losing paying customers to free clients, so jagex stepped in and intervened.

At the homepage of RuneLite, the page is showered in Jagex's copyrighted images. There are only certain cases which permits the use of IP such as gameplay images, and commercial use is a very clear violation of copyright law.

The same goes for RSBuddy and Konduit. Ever since RSBuddy was a thing, I really wondered how Jagex felt about them using their IP for commercial purposes. I guess now we know.

In my opinion, Jagex shouldn't have any reason to close runelite if they offered to close source it, especially after seeing what OSBuddy did.

 

Well they will do what they have to do, they will close osbuddy too if its needed, doesnt matter what we say.
Also it can affect bot clients too, if they detect them somehow. I dont think all Mods want only Ash and Mat K.

 

Pretty sure all MOD's voted for this. Not just Mod Mat K.

 

Well they finally saw what community want and:
UPDATE 23:30 16th May 2018

We’ve been in touch with the developer of RuneLite, Adam. Whilst discussions and our investigations continue we are temporarily holding off legal action. Adam has agreed to make the RuneLite client and obfuscation tool closed source and pause development during this time.

We will continue to review the Jagex approach to third party clients, taking onboard community feedback. This may take some time, and we will let you, the community, know updates as we can share them.

They are on a witch hunt for RuneLite, sad to see. Shows that they likely have a partnership with OSBuddy because it is a paid for client. Aswell as the fact that Jacmob owns it and has a lot of communication with Jagex. Will be interesting to see how this plays out by the end of the week.
