Melee armour is now useless

At first I liked the new EoC a bit, but after continuous testing, I have decided I absoloutely hate it. The combat seemed exciting initially, but now it is just more confusing and requires a lot more effort, and doesn't suit the small character style RS combat.

On top of this, melee armour is now useless in PVP. After continuous dueling in duel arena, I found that Mage armour is by far the most overpowered armour in the game now. It gives decent ranged and mage defence, while giving astronomical melee defence.

It is ridiculous. For melee fights, you cannot use melee armour anymore, or you will be guaranteed to lose. You must use mage armour in melee fights now after the EoC. Why? Because the melee defence of melee armour has been nerfed and the melee defence of mage armour has been so overpowered so as to overtake any melee defence provided by any melee armour.

Here is the proof of this:

Ganodermic vs Bandos armour:

Notice that although the Ganodermic slightly reduces your offensive melee ability, it outdoes this by hugely boosting your melee defences. The melee defence of Ganodermic is over double that of Bandos armour.

This makes Ganodermic the second most powerful melee and mage armour in the game, and Virtus armour the most powerful melee and mage armour in the game.

Bandos armour is now only useful for it's slightly better offensive stats when training melee, and because it doesn't degrade. However for PvP, Torva and Bandos are now useless compared to their counterpart Virtus and Ganodermic.

Discuss.

i just knew the EOC was going to be a hassle down the road, don't you think its just a mistake and they'll balance everything out eventually?

No, because it is part of their planned 'combat triangle'. But rather than balancing all the combat styles, they have just made mage armour by far the most powerful armour for both melee and mage.

Before Melee armour used to be the most commonly used and the combat triangle was more in its favour, as Mage armour didn't provide much defence against Melee, and Melee didnt provide much defence against mage. This suited RS for over 10 years, as RS is a heavily Melee centred and orientated game, with most players and npcs focussing on melee.

Now we have: Melee armour that is bad against melee, okay against range, and terrible against mage, and Mage armour that is excellent against melee, great against mage and okay against range.

If they haven't changed it since the start of Eoc, I highly doubt they will ever change it.

Wow this is absurd. Isn't ganodermic like 1/10 the cost too? Or has the demand risen for ganodermic as a result of this

It is 1/10 of the cost.

The price of ganodermic hasn't changed that much, but it is on an increasing curve right now.

The thing is I don't think many people have actually realised how Jagex have made Mage armour so overpowered. Most people are still melee dueling and staking with melee armour vs melee armour, oblivious to the fact that they are wearing the wrong armours. There is great potential to exploit this in staked duels , as many people will feel confident in staking someone in a melee fight who is wearing Mage armour... until they own you.

Only through intensive testing and dueling did me and my friend on RS confirm what the stat changes showed. We couldn't believe Jagex had done this, that is why we practice dueled so many times. With even melee stats, and using the same melee equipment we had even fights when both using Bandos, or when both using Gano, but when one person used Gano and the other Bandos, whoever used Gano would ALWAYS win, thus confirming what the stats showed.

I suspect when more and more people realise this, Bandos and Torva armours will experience hefty price crashes and Mage armours will rocket in price, especially Virtus and Ganodermic. It is just a matter of time for people's ignorance to be eroded.

think bandos would crash badly? since its mainly used for training anyway

I'm not 100% sure, but it will definitely crash, but I can't say if it will be really bad.

It's counterpart mage armour; Robes of Subjugation requires 70def and 70mag to wear and doesn't degrade and provide's much better defense, athough slightly worse offense. It's safe to say Robes of Subjugation in the long-term will almost certainly rise in price significantly.

Whether people will start to use Robes of Subjugation over Bandos really depends on how people are now deciding to train melee:

1. If people use a sheild ability set-up and/or regenration ability when training to constantly regain health using adrenaline, then I think Bandos won't crash too badly as it would be more advantageous.

2. But many people certainly train using the Momentum ability and Food to heal, as it is much simpler and faster, and requires a LOT less effort, and is probably favoured by many bots becuase it is so much more efficient combat wise. In this case Robes of Subjugation would far outdo Bandos, which would lead to Bandos crashing badly and Robes of Subjugation rising.

I can't say for sure which way it will go, but I can say the 2nd scenario is much more likely, coupled with the fact that Robes of Subjugation is much better for PVP too.

Jagex tries to make mage a little stronger against melee, goes completely overboard and adds rocket launchers, tear gas and C4 to mage armor.

Typical ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

Personally for me, I wouldn't mind the EoC if they changed all the armor back to its original graphics. I thought the original melee armor graphics were awesome. Ever since EoC stuff like Rune went from actually okay to shit.

I understand, its just frustrating...even with all the things they implemented into the game, the least they can do is fix whats broken...heck there wasn't anything broken to begin with sigh

Wow I'm so with you on that, I freaking miss the original armor look, if it was in the game, I'd play.. .but no, they had to make the armor look stupid.

Also, yeah, Eoc ruins everything. >_<

Your comparing a lvl 70 tier armour/weapon against a lv 75 tier armour.
I can understand how Gano might be slightly better in this case but I don't know how what's the extent of accuracy penatlies at the moment.

You're suffering from a 16% penalty for the ganodermic body/legs. Plus the lvl 70 tier weapon should not be as effect on Ganodermic at all. Try using a Vine Whip or Chaotic to test. I see some flaws with this if people are using better weapons.

If you don't know about accuracy penalties here's an explaination.
Only body/legs/shield affect weapon accuracy.

The degree it affects it is based a 100/92/85 accuracy system where the wearing armour in which your combat style is the same/weak against/strong towards. This prevents people from hybriding and abusing the triangle system by getting the best armour and weapons.

IE. Melee Weapon Class: Melee Armour (100%) /Magic Armour (92%)/Ranged Armour (85%)

Thus, if you wear the wrong 3 pieces of ranged armour (body, legs, shield) with a melee weapon, you will suffer a 55% penalty (15% per piece). Your accuracy will be 45% of what it could be if you wore melee armour.

TL;DR

Weapon Class: Same Class/ Weak Against/ Strong Towards
Accuracy: 100/92/85 (per piece)
Only BODY, LEGS, SHIELD affect accuracy
HELMET, NECKLACE, CAPE, BOOTS, GLOVES do NOT affect accuracy

NOTE: This system only applies to MONO-CLASS ITEMS. Wearing HYBRID class items decreases the overall penalty which is more evident once you hit the higher armour ratings.

Ganodermic has to be recharged. I still use bandos for melee and ganodermic for mage and royal for range, but I might just sell off my bandos.

This is ridiculous if what you're saying deems true then the game must just be in a cycle of doing bad things for the community. If Bandos is now getting over-powered by Ganodermic, I just don't know what to say. They've tried to keep up with other MMO's such as WoW but that just won't be RuneScape and never will be, they should have just remained an old school game.

It's like taking PacMan giving him legs, making the map 3D then expecting the players to feel the same nostalgia and enjoy the game the way they used to. It just wouldn't feel the same.

Stop Jagex before they run RuneScape into the floor, that's what I say.

It's also not really a fair comparation when you wear bad items (neitz, regen, dboots) with one set but not the other.

True, I quit playing for reasons such as this and now I'm waiting for something spontaneous to happen or else I don't think I will ever play again. :(
