What are your guys' opinions about this guy as far as his pharmaceuticals career?

When I heard about it, the opinion I formulated was that he was just some douche abusing drug rights laws. After I started to look into it, however, I saw that he really isn't doing anyting too shady (in pharmaceuticals) and it really surprises me how much shit he's getting for it. It almost seems intentional on the part of many media outlets to mindlessly bash him based on a biased retelling of 1 thing that he did (get your tinfoil hats boys).

Anyway, is there something i'm missing? I keep reading these fucking articles and headlines from "respectable" sites that unjustly present him as a price-gouging douche.

 

Although what he has done is terrible it is only reflection of the current state of regulations (or lack thereof) in the pharmaceutical industry. Though the way he acts certainly doesn't help his image (he acts like an asshole), the only reason he's able to do this is because pharm companies have a monopoly on certain drugs through patents and can raise their prices at will.

Also his argument about raising his prices for "R&D of new drugs" is complete garbage because the profit margins of these companies are among the highest compared to any other industry.

 

He bought a League of Legends team and never paid the players. He's from my country originally though

 

Yeah, I agree with you. As a CEO of a publicly traded corporation at least as far as I'm aware (please correct me if I'm wrong) he was and is legally obliged to maximize profit for the shareholders. If this is the move that maximizes profit, so be it (especially seeing that as others have mentioned many pharma companies already engage in these practices). More attention should be given to the laws that allow this sort of stuff to happen as opposed to just scapegoating Shkreli without offering anything to combat the underlying issue.

 

He's abusing what he can do as a Ceo of his corporation. It's sad to see my it but money is money to him.

He was interviewed by the breakfast club, and says 75% of his companies business is free of charge. Says if your insurance won't cover it, they will give it to you for free. But he wants to be paid by insurance before hand. The medicine he owns is on the low end of expensive medicines, with some medicines costing 2 million us dollars a year, which is more than his.

Now, whether that's true or not, who knows. Dude acts like a high schooler. He was simply gifted in terms of intelligence and was able to make a fortune on all kinds of other things. His personality sucks ass though.

 

See most people like to join in the bandwagon without ever seeking their own opinion and doing their own research. Once that shit started circulating facebook with the only caption being "Martin Shkreli raises AIDS medicine by 500%, now this grandmother will die of aids", people joined the bandwagon and started hating.

He isn't doing anything too uncommon from what I can tell, he just happened to take the hit for it. Unlucky.

He's openly doing what healthcare and pharmaceutical corporations have been doing in this country for the past decades. You might as well throw in every single health orientated corporation in there because they're no different in the aspect of preying on the sick/unfortunate.

He's put out into the public eye based on his actions and approaches to different publicized situations.

 

If people didn't immediately believe everything they hear, even people who think they are "above" that mentality, then he would be much less hated.

For the unaware, his company Turing is only charging big-name pharmacies $750 per pill. If you have Medicare, which everyone who takes Daraprim does, then you now get it for $1, which is $12.50 less than before. That's saving daily users over $4,500 annually. And Turing can be easily contacted if you don't have Medicare.

He puts boatloads of money back into HIV research and helping ill children, as well as visiting these people in hospital. Everything you hear about people dying because of him are flat-out lies. Really, almost every bad thing you hear about him is a lie. Why? Because scumbag companies are losing hundreds of millions to him.

As a person, he is unbelievably smart. Like, I don't think I've ever seen someone so well-educated in business. He's done a few business lessons for YouTube, and they will probably teach you more valuable information than college will. I think he puts on the villainous persona to go along with "the most hated man in America" title, and he's talked about it before on his livestream.

Really, he's just a smart and successful guy who found ways to make profit while helping people, and was easy for shitty media to target.
