Self Requested Ban section

This is a pretty basic suggestion but I hope it will keep the forum a bit more clear. I see alot of people requesting Self Requested Bans everywhere: in Report A Scammer, in Report A Ban Evader, in Sythe Support, in Community General, everywhere. Therefore my suggestion to create a section in the Anti-Scam category called "Self Requested Ban". This would also make it more clear when you're looking for someone who has recently suggested a SRB without the need to browse through the whole forum.

 

I think this is a good idea! I understand you could just PM a mod, but this could serve as a way to historically show if someone SRB'd or if they were actually banned for violation of rules.

yeah i don't see a reason why not if i'm honest, would (maybe) make moderating easier to an extent?

Supporting because of the reason it will clean up every other forum. Kinda makes the request out of place if it doesn't have its own specific place in this case.

 

We were talking about this in the SL and we were thinking about possibly changing the UT of the user to "Self Requested Ban" - do you think this would be sufficient?

 

While this indeed might be an idea I still would like to suggest a section for it.

I think that SRB's need to be revamped. Like facebook, I think it would be better suited if a Sythe user, who decides to SRB, should be given like a "Deactivated" user title.. Their account is still prevented from logging in and posting etc, but it would help differentiate them a lot more easily than a banned member.

I knew more about vbulletin, but maybe in Xen it could take away any user name customization and just give the user title "**Deactivated Account**" in bold etc

Then you could make a deactivated "user group" and that would help on the backend as well.

OR:

Theres a XF plugin - [TH] Join User Group

It allows a user to "Join" a Usergroup (i.e SRB or deactivate their own account) which would do all of the above automatically. It could change user's "User Title" and show them as SRB or Deactivated WITHOUT deleting their posts and content and user info. Permissions can be set to where once they join this group only a mod/admin can move them out of the usergroup (hence reactivated their account and letting them post etc). The only other thing to do at that point would be to make a sub-forum somewhere (probably Dispute Section b/c of perms) where someone could formally request to be re-activated. Problem solved.

Since the SRB rank doesnt exist anymore I'd support the user title change to help differentiate between SRB's and permanent bans.

 

I'm with you on this one.

 

Sephs plugin allowing users to self SRB and unSRB is awesome, if the plugin has good feedback @Sythe i say let us fiddle with it for a test run and if DOESNT have any safety flaws then I love the idea

 

Just a heads up while I like Sephs suggestion aswell, I am hereby also suggesting a seperate section.

 

I am glad you like the idea, @Dave and @Sythe. It's not "my" plugin Dave, lol, but I did some research and seen that it could be useful. I read the discussion on it and it seems pretty stable as long as perms are set up right. Don't forget you should probably also set up a forum section for people to be able to post as guests to get re-activated.

A lot of people posting above are lost.. Uhm I believe OP is stating when you want to ask for SRB, there is no specific place to ask, he wants a section as a result. As well as if it is in a specific section in one confined place it will also aid in understanding why people are SRB'd, why certain people have asked for SRB (sometimes there are reasons). @Dunworry Not whether their actually banned or SRB, but that's a good idea.

@Sephiroth878 should of created a separate suggestion >.< you've confused people now. "nobody can browse the profile" -on the Xen forum. Is it a feature that Xen is fixated on the no viewing profile of a deactivated or SRB/Ban person? Or is that just your idea. Why should we not be able to browse that persons profile?

I agree and would definitely like to see something like this implemented. The Original Post suggestion. I've seen countless amount of times where people request every where for a SRB, even in Dispute section. A sub-section maybe more appropriately placed under Security? Maybe a stickie thread in a specific area? I'm not sure, where it could be best placed.

I feel like this section will become outdated and not often used. SRBs aren't very often, but after awhile it will be filled with a lot of SRB requests where the user is not banned (I'd say the majority of those who request a SRB end up coming back within a couple months)

 

This is already a thing, Globals are supposed to be requesting it.
