What should I make for my physics project?

Physics classes need to create a musical instrument, either wind or string, and successfully play a song of their choice on it. I have a few ideas as to what to make, but they aren't very unique...Any ideas?

That sounds nothing like it has to do with Physics. But i'd make something wind, considering that's easier.. That's a completely ridiculous project though... In my class i had an "egg drop" project that dealt with gravity and inertia. 10x easier. Goodluck.

I'd suggest you make something like a flute with maybe idk.. small water pipes. You can get them from home depot. Drill holes into them.

Create your own instrument and play a song on? What the fuck? That sounds hard as shit. To me that sounds like a lot to ask for a project.

BMTH - I also did the egg drop, except we had to make ours so it wouldn't break when we dropped it out the window. Mine didn't break, I put sewing stuffing in it :D

The project deals with the mechanics of sound and resonance. I did your egg drop project in grade 8 :p

Yeah I've done it in 5th, 8th and now in 12th. I've yet to get to "sound" in physics.

That sounds like it could be a pretty fun project actually. You could go the flute route, but a lot of people will probably thinking the same thing.

Get a nice piece of bamboo I'm thinking about a foot. Should be pretty easy to hollow out using a drill and a small spade drill bit. Should be relatively smooth, mess around with it for a wile until you have the bore size your looking for. Leave a like 2 inches of one end untouched by the drill bit. Then shave the end you didn't touch off at an angle. Drill a a small hole in your mouth peace tapping into you're hollow tube. Place Holes for your fingers to go over in various places.

Then you could take a soda cap and put it at the end of your flute with a smaller hole in it than the bore of your tube to add some resistance so more air goes threw the desired holes.

Just an idea, good luck with this project haha.

Buy a poorly made wooden flute, claim it's yours and try to play a song on it.

    That's what I'd do...
