Well, big improvement in the Pure Section of the Market, we now have stickies telling people to not post their tanks and barrows-pkers and mains.

But, they still post all their 50 defence and 40 defence pkers. Those just don't qualify as pures, they are more mains than they're pures atleast.

A fix for this could be removing the "Characters: Levels 100-138" Since no pure, could achieve that combat level, even with 99 in all combat skills (Except defence obviously)

Aswell as adding the limit of 35 defence, to the above mentioned sticky in the pure forums.

I know this suggestion will result in some controversy, with people claiming that people with 45 defence is pure.

My counter-arguments; No pure clan accept higher than 35 defence. And, here is the definition of a pure, written by the legend, I mahatma i:

i Mahatma i's Definition of RS2 Pure
Since some of you guys still don't understand what a pure is here I took the liberty of finding someone who can explain it in a greater depth than I can. This post come from the PK-ing forum on the runescape website.

===---My Definition Of "Pure"---===

OK this thread was alive a while ago with like 1k posts but it fell off the forums after a while. I seen a lot of people asking "what is a pure" again, or people who have incorrect information on this. I had the text saved on my computer, so I will copy and paste it, making a few changes.

This is I Mahatma I, aka Sn1p3r Twigs, and MANY other names (some secret). I have been using pure chars since before July 2002 (that was last secret word change on my oldest pure). With around 3 years of experience using pure accounts I have grown to know the world of "pures" quite well. I will try to share that info with you all.

Firstly, this is a "pure" definition based on the rs2 combat system. It is very similar to that of RSC, but in rsc magic was an independant stat also (this is explained more below). But this guide is specifically for the definition and explanation of pures in rs2, the world of runescape as we know it.

Post 1 - Intro & Table Of Contents
Post 2 - Combat Formula & Independant/Dependant Stats
Post 3 - Definition of a Pure
Post 4 - Examples of Pure Builds

===---The Combat Formula---===

Before I define "pure", I first must explain how the combat system works. This is the formula I use, it is 99% accurate, but has sometimes been off by about 0.05 of a combat level.
< is less than
> is greater than
x is multiplied

Melee Formula:
(Attack + Strength) > (Magic x 1.5)
(Attack + Strength) > (Ranged x 1.5)
Combat Level = [(Attack + Strength) x 0.325] + (Defence x 0.25) + (Hp x 0.25) + (Prayer x 0.125)

Magic Formula:
(Magic x 1.5) > (Attack + Strength)
(Magic x 1.5) > (Ranged x 1.5)
Combat Level = [(Magic x 1.5) x 0.325] + (Defence x 0.25) + (Hp x 0.25) + (Prayer x 0.125)

Ranged Formula:
(Ranged x 1.5) > (Attack + Strength)
(Ranged x 1.5) > (Magic x 1.5)
Combat Level = [(Ranged x 1.5) x 0.325] + (Defence x 0.25) + (Hp x 0.25) + (Prayer x 0.125)

===---Independant & Dependant Stats---===

Now, if you look at the above 3 formulas, you will notice that they are the same EXCEPT for the first part in the [square brackets]. This portion in the sqaure brackets is what U call the DEPENDANT part of the equation, which brings me to my explanation of dependant and independant stats.

Dependant Stats: Attack+Strength, Magic, and Ranged. These stats effect your combat level depending on the other dependant stats. These are the stats that are a "pure"s best friend.

Independant Stats: Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer. These stats will ALWAYS effect your combat level. These are the stats that make you "impure".

===---What is a "Pure"?---===

With the knowledge of dependant/independant stats, you can now understant what a "pure" is:

A "pure" has HIGH dependant stats, and LOW independant stats. The lower your independant stats are, the more "pure" you are.

^^ THAT IS IT! THAT IS HOW TO DEFINE A "PURE" ^^

It is up to a matter of opinion what "high" and "low" is that makes up each persons individual opinion on pures. I personally consider Defence Above 1 high, Prayer Above 34 high, and hitpoints is just what it is.

===---Examples of Pure Builds---===

Now I will give a few examples of common character stat-builds that are often referred to as "pures".

TRUE PURE: This pure has only dependant skills, and NO independant skills. I had (not anymore because I raised hitpoints on it) a char that was a good example of a true pure. It was 70 ranged, 70 magic, 1 defence, 1 prayer, 10 hitpoints and combat 36 (Before you asked, train ranged with cannon, magic with curse/confuse/weaken).

REAL PURE: We all know it is hard to train without getting Hitpoints exp, so this is a real pure. The only independant stat they have is hitpoints. The best example of a real pure is sw0rd (name edited, wants to keep low profile) with 99 strength, 93 magic, 76 ranged, 60 attack, 1 defence, 1 prayer, 88 hitpoints, 73 combat.

PRAYER PURE: Also known as the "Prayer Beast". This type of pure has Hitpoints and Prayer (up to 43) as their only independant stats. The best example of a prayer pure is Volcanic Fox with 99 strength, 99 attack, 95 hitpoints, 45 Prayer (43-45 didn't raise combat), 1 defence, 93 combat.

Those are just a few of the common builds of "pures". There are many, and people can customize their stats and still maintain a good "purity" level.

Just remember the golden rule of pures:
A "pure" has HIGH dependant stats (attack+strength, magic, and ranged), and LOW independant stats (prayer, hitpoints, defence). THE LOWER YOUR INDEPENDANT STATS ARE, THE MORE "PURE" YOU ARE!

A no from me. If the account is specifically built for PKing, it's a pure. If it's not, it's a main. In my opinion, you can have a level 100+ pure because it was built specifically to fight in that level with a strategic build (usually, 70 defense or something) to keep its damage-per-second high but its combat level low. In this case, the defense is strategically built to take advantage of quest rewards and/or armor benefits, but no higher.

However, the idea of changing the sections from combat level to defense level is intriguing. It'd be nice to have a "Combat pures <35 Def" versus "Combat Pures >35 Def" section, but there are so many in between as well. Classifying a pure based on defense is ultimately just as arbitrary as combat level, but this way the same "class" of pures is still together. (E.g., you're looking for a 1-def PKer instead of a high-def staker, so you go to the Combat Pures >35 Def section.)

Well, a character build specifically for pking isn't always a pure. A pure means that the character is actually pure.. ;> Just as much as a tank (Which is also build to pk) isn't a pure.

Look at the definition I posted in the quote :)

But you also have quite a good point, this whole discussion could, technically be avoided, and we could just make a 1-35 defence section, and a 35+ section, and barrows and tanks still belong in mains.

Double posting aside, the point I was trying to make is that that definition of a pure isn't really very accurate. Especially in the last few years, people began making higher levelled pures because a maxed 60/99/1 pure had a low combat level, so lower loot in the wildy. Also, the advent of the Ancient Curses, quest-specific weapons and armor, etc. eventually drove the creation of more "pure" accounts with defense.

What people call "pure clans" recruit only less than 35 defense so that they can actually fight the same target in the wilderness. That doesn't mean that the other accounts aren't pure. A barrows pure is just as pure as a 1-defense pure with 0 xp in the Defense skill. However, an account with 6 defense is probably not a pure unless that 6 defense came from a useful quest reward. Also, even if an account has a pretty number like 35 defense, it is not pure in my eyes unless the EXP comes with useful quest rewards. If it doesn't have curses at the very least, it's not a pure to me. Thus, unquested accounts with 45 defense are not pure, but if it was quested specifically for zerkers, then it is.

We both agree that the term "pure" used in Runescape, started somewhere. It started as my thread says, with i mahatma i, or atleast at his time. The word "pure" was used to describe characters not having defence, thereby being "pure". You can't just suddenly decide that having defence, is pure aswell, that would mean no one is pure, and ruin the entire concept.

As I said before, you can't categorize tanks with pures, just because they leveled the defence using quests and/or to have an advantage in wilderness. We can both agree that they're pkers, both pures and tanks are pkers. But not both are pures.

Same goes for people with 45 defence, they're not pure, theyre IMpure. But they're zerkers. That's the definition of them. People have just mistakenly started calling them Zerker Pures.

A rune pure isn't a main, it is a pure, hence the name rune pure. If this was to change then we would have to put a rune pure into the mains category, a spot where it wouldn't fit.

Did you even read the thread? That name hasn't existed forever, only used by noobs here on Sythe :P

A rune pure is basically just a main with slightly lower defence.

Where a pure, actually is pure :)

The definition of the word pure "free of extraneous elements of any kind"

Defence is that extraneous element. So if someone get defence, they're not pure anymore.

I am sorry, but Runescape has simply changed since whenever you apparently left. Rune pures are extremely common now. I've already explained why: there are new weapons, new quests, new armour... new a lot of stuff that makes it beneficial to get your level up and fight higher-levelled players. Additionally, rather than levelling up defense in a strength pure, you can have a tank, summoning pure, etc. There are dozens of types of pures.

Again: The word "pure" only means it is an account with stats that are tailored around taking advantage of the combat level system. It makes absolutely no difference if it has defense or not, as long as the levels are strategically placed.

I don't support this. Zerkers and rune pures belong in the pure section.

The concept of being "A pure" is meant as having 1 defence.

You can be PURELY leveling defence, but that doesn't make you A pure.

A pure, is, and always has been, a level 1 defence character, made to pk.

The whole concept of being A pure, revolved around the purity of having 1 defence. That can't just be changed because noobs decide 40 defence doesn't count as impure.

A 40 defence char, that has been strategically leveled to pk, is a pker, not a pure, wtf is pure about that?

That's like claiming gold with 50% tin in it, is pure gold.
