    Make it Harder to register?

Resetting your router does not change your ip, only your ISP can change your ip

    I do support email verification.

SMS verification should be implemented only if more than 1 account is made on the same IP? You should only have 1 account.

    http://whatismyipaddress.com/dynamic-static

If you have a dynamic ip reseting your router will change it, however it is an extremely small change (e.g 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.2).

    Make it Harder to register?

Did you even read the link I posted or?

If you have a dynamic ip your isp assigns you a new ip(external) every time you connect.

    Make it Harder to register?

I don't feel we should hinder legitimate users as collateral to us stopping scammers/trolls/advertisers from registering.

If we do that, they still win >_>

A more effective way to stop the newbs from posting phising links would be to have a post requirement for certain forums - this worked very well on fagex when it was still around.

They should definitely implement email verification on registration.

No, making it harder to register won't prevent a possible scammer from anything.

    Make it Harder to register?

I think you need a little help understanding - your ISP sets your connection type to either a 'Dynamic IP' or 'Static IP'.

Most ISPs these days assign a dynamic IP unless specifically requested by yourself - take for example the IP 94.15.141.76 - say this was my IP, if I restarted my router it will probably change (a very minor change, it would say on the same subnet /24 range) and it would set to 94.15.141.64.

Otherwise you have a Static IP which will be permanent and never change unless you change your ISP or a new connection is leased to your premises, or if the ISP moved there routers/network/hubs about in your local area or did some upgrades, etc.

    I hope that helps. ;)

    Make it Harder to register?

    False.

    False.

    False.

    And false.

Most of the time the first two sets of numbers will stay the same, or close to the same. The second two sets of numbers, however, can completely change.

For instance, you can have 73.115.192.38 as your IP.

You can then reset your router, or disconnect/connect via your router status page and get assigned 73.115.92.122.

Occasionally the first two sets will change, but it isn't always changing like the second two sets.

Back on topic, however, I really don't think verifying your email would hinder a legit user who only has to do it once. It will annoy phishers who register multiple accounts a day, and have to also make email addresses to go along with them. At the very least, could you make it so you have to enter a valid email address? At the moment I can enter [email protected] and it would go through perfectly fine....
