Well i was running system recovery on my laptop as it was running slow, it turned off on its own, when i tryed to reboot it says missing or corrupt file

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
/windows/system32/config/system

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the orginal setup cd-rom
Select `r` at the first screen to start repair "

I got the laptop 1 year ago for christmas..Its ADVENT it didnt come with a windows cd as it had a system recovery or some shit..But it wont load up so i cant recover..Do i have to go get a windows set up cd from friend ..? Ive tryed googling it but no help.. Any idea's?

I am currently using familys comp..Very slow

I will say the first things that comes into my mind....

If your connection is fast, you can download a crappy non-genuin version (usually, there are patches that fix that anyway)
[ Or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994/EN-US/ ]

2) Go to GeekSquad or something they will help you, it will cost you $100 so too bad.

3) Find out what did you do exactly, system recov doesn't mess you computer that way.

4) Hello everyone this is my first post on sythe.

5) I believe they no longer give CDs anymore.

6) Contact Microsoft, they will not help you, but do it anyway.

1. Use the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or the Windows 2000 Startup disk to start the computer.
2. When you see the "Welcome to Setup" message, press R for "repair."
3. Press C to run the Recovery Console tool.
4. Select the installation that you want to repair.
5. Type the administrator password.

Download XP Pro SP2 Boot CD here:

DUDE! I had the EXACT problem. You're harddrive is fucked according to Dell, everything is gone. You need to download some drivers, and Dell will ship you a replacement hard drive. Hope you didn't have p0rn on your old one, they will ask for it back.

When you turn your PC on just start it in safe-mode? Then run your System recovery program. Should work, otherwise. You'll have to download XP or borrow it from a freind I guess unless you have it already.
