    Lovebirds

So, just yesterday, my female lovebird attacked the male one and almost killed him. Ripped the top of the head really bad. Then my dad called the vet and asked him what to do, got a list of medicines to use, gave him advices, etc.

What may have caused the female to attack the male? And I'm also curious as to whether his feathers will grow back or not. The damage looks severe. He also doesn't open his left eye much, is he half blind now? How long does it take to recover?

I didn't really spend much time with them, not a really good pet owner. Is this because of depression or something? Or jealousy? I heard they can get jealous quite easily. My siblings used to spend the time with the male all the time. The female doesn't even let us touch her.

Please post only if you know what you're talking about/had similar experiences.

This is not a troll. If necessary, I'll post a picture.

If you get two lovebirds never leave them in the same cage together, as they will attack and possibly kill each other. Try getting two cages and putting them side by side so they cannot attack.

How ironic... Lovebirds but they try killing each other.

Back on topic, uhm i think it will take bout a month or so to recover.

That's a rather stupid suggestion. They're social creatures, and do not like to be alone. I've already put them in different cages. And I didn't put them side by side as they'll probably scream and swear in their bird language.

By 'My siblings used to spend time with them' I meant my brother and sister (they're both older than me). As for the birds, one is female and the other is male. I'm pretty sure they're not mother and son and are more like husband and wife.

Well, she laid four eggs at first and broke them all (I'm not a witness to this, but nobody in my family has touched the eggs, ever), one by one. She's laid four again and after a few weeks, bites the crap out of her husband.

But you're missing the point... She nearly killed the male.

Yes lovebirds can and most of the time will be very social, but aggression can arise very easily with lovebirds. It is very uncommon for a lovebird to kill another lovebird, but it does happen. The lovebirds may not like being separated but I would rather them be separated rather then killing each other. Are you 100% positive that one is male and the other is female? If not then fighting can also occur between two females. Hope this helps

Stuff like that isn't too odd with animals. When I was younger I had two hamsters that produced offspring, next thing I know, the father is ripping it's offspring apart :s

One is male, the other is female. I'm sure. And last time I checked, you can't have babies if you put two of the same gender in bed... They already laid eggs (a total of eight, four of them broke).

I'm not really sure what to do with the female one. If I ever plan on training it, it's gonna take a really long time. The male one is improving. It can moves his eyes now. Good stuff.

I see. And what did you do next?

Try putting the cages side by side and see if they want to get to eachother. Usually when you seperte two lovebirds even if the did fight they will want to be with eachother not scream at eachother.
