Windows 10 is downloading, I didnt prompt it

Dafuq? Came in to fking Windows 10 downloading. When it asks to upgrade I've always said no and I didn't prompt this upgrade. Apparently Microsoft doesn't care what I want lol

 

the installer is an automatic update. It don't actually install & upgrade to 10 but it downloads the installer.

If it's just upgraded then it should be easy to go back to win7 or win8. There should be a spot like this http://lono.pro/16ZgO under settings.

 

I actually like windows 10 however I understand if you don't like it, my biggest issue is with the security, god knows how much information they are actually collecting which scares me. I've been looking into other systems so there isn't as much information collected.

Honestly, I like windows 10. I had 6 months to beta test it before it was released, and it really grew on me. The thing that I would be careful of is that if you downgrade I think your free upgrade to windows 10 is gone. Also windows 10 upgrades were only free for a year, which will be coming to it's summation soon.

My thoughts are that Windows 7 is no longer supported by updates; and therefore, vulnerable. Windows 10 is definitely the better long term solution.

As for what DRSX said, sure, but I would rather not be vulnerable to some awesome OS exploit instead. Rather take my chances with microsoft.

Yes. That would be the same. They are susceptible to more viruses, exploits, etc.

I mean I won't try to convince you to use Windows 10 instead, but I just wanted to drop in with a few facts that you might be misinformed about.

Windows 7 can't do a single thing that 10 can't do just as well, if not better. 10 is faster by all accounts, easier to use, is the best long-term solution for support, and has better compatibility with new software. 7 is at the beginning of the end right now.

In terms of security, all the sketchy shit can easily be turned off in Windows 10. If you're worried about general surveillance, tough shit because that's been a part of 7 and 8 as well for a few months now. Only way to escape would be to backtrack to XP.

In terms of just *liking* 7, you can arrange absolutely everything in 10 in such a way that it'll match your 7 experience.

Only real difference is the search button, but it's extremely useful. It's like the Mac "Spotlight" feature, and works even better in my experience.

 

Yeah, I ended up deciding to keep it. I don't like it because things aren't arranged how I've had them for years and I don't exactly know how it even was, but it's not terrible I suppose.

One thing right off the bat I do like about Windows 10 is my dual monitor has more functionality. I'm sure I could have set it up on Windows 7 to have the same, but it was automatic on 10.

 

This also just happened on my father's PC, not an isolated incident.

 

I would recommend doing a clean install of 10 now that you got the upgrade. Just use your windows 7 product code when you install. Windows is notorious for fucking up their "upgrades" and in the long run you'll experience far less issues and headaches by installing windows 10 fresh.

 

Same thing happened to me, but I just went ahead and shifted over to 10.

Been using it for a week now without any problems. Was never against that change, but I was always too lazy to go ahead and get it started and now I'm happy I finally went ahead with it. Like Blupig said, I don't think anyone should convince you to use Windows 10 if you like 7 more, but I don't see a reason why you wouldn't switch over.

 

That's pretty shitty of them tbh. The excuse I think is that since auto-update is enabled then they just "updated" our software. And supposedly it logs the user clicking decline on the Windows 10 update and after so many declines it just moves forward with the upgrade. But they know we didn't want it, did it anyway.

Yea...really the only thing I like less is how the start menu is set up. The Windows 7 menu was way simpler and I could reach things quicker. Other than that, it's pretty much the same to me.

 

You can modify the start menu enough to where it's basically just like win 7

 

I actually liked windows 10 better than any previous windows version, however as they like to collect so much informiation and other shit about you, technically youre ratted by microsoft and nobody wants them to snoop through your computer, I know this is off topic but I highly advice you to switch over to Linux.
