I'm looking to buy a new computer for $1000 or less. I stumbled across this website a while back and heard it was pretty good (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/).

Just want to know if the prices on this site are reasonable, since I have no idea what computer parts cost. I already have a monitor and mouse. I am going to need speakers, a new keyboard, and a CPU. Basically everything. (possibly a wireless internet card).

Anyone have any other sites or companies I could check out?

I also want to know peoples opinions of video cards. Like ATI vs. NVIDIA, which one is better?, etc.

Thanks,
Honeo

I would get a laptop, i have one and i find its a lot better (takes up a lot less space yet has the same power of a desktop computer)

I have a Dell. It's fair.

Yeah, a laptop could be an option since i'll be off to college in a year and a half... But I hear Dell's are way overpriced, unless I heard wrong.

well, you can easily get a decent dell for 1000$
Mine cost 1400. It has all the power i would ever need. (had for 1 year)
They start at about 450$ roughly.

Ok, I still want to hear some other ideas though too.

I got my dell for $1k off the normal price..clearance ftw.

But, Dell's do suck.

Yeah, well if there are any good deals out there that would be great.

Still looking for more peoples ideas..

ATI vs. NVIDIA really doesn't matter, it's about the quality of the card you get. Some people will say ATI is better, some will say Nvidia; they both have cards with nearly equal performance for a similar price.

Ok thanks Clash.

I know everything I want in a computer, just don't know where to get it. And does this web site (www.cyberpowerpc.com) have reasonably priced computers?

Uh I'm assuming you don't know how to build a computer...if you knew how, it would save you hundreds of dollars. But I would say since your going off to college and you probably need something that will last you...get a Macbook. I know I'm going to get flamed by a bunch of people about the whole mac vs. PC debate, but seriously fuck off. Macs will last you forever. My little brother has had a macbook G4 for 5 years, and it still runs smooth.

If you want to get a desktop, buy a HP and replace the graphics card with a Nvidea 8600 GT, its only 125$ at my local electronics store.

I saw a computer there with quad core with 3GB ram, 640 GB hardrive and a nivida graphics card 8400 gt. 22 inch monitor. Comes with keyboard/mouse too. It's preety good. Only 999$.

I looked and found something like you were talking about... Thanks.

Any other ideas anyone?

Desktops are superior if you want to use it for schoolwork and games.

Laptops are annoying. And you have to buy a new laptop rather than new parts if it becomes a tad outdated.

Getting a desktop also means you have the ability to build it custom - which I recommend considering retail packages rip you off a shitload.

I have a laptop and a desktop - I use both. The desktop utilizes Windows for games, where my laptop utilizes Linux, and I commonly use it to host TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, HTTP etc servers.

Find a kid at your school who can build one, and buy the parts from www.newegg.com.

For $10 I'll put one together for you (tell you which parts to buy), and then you can offer a kid like $40 to put the pieces in place.

PM me if you're interested.
