So on a serious note how long do you think it will have a decent sized community and also how long do you think JaGeX will carry on supporting 07?

My guess is no longer than 3 more years.

It's been a year, and the size has maintained, and since January of this year, has gone up.

    Sooo...

I think there is a good 4-5 years left in it. Roughly the same for RS3 in my eyes. Deep down however, it will all depend on what content Jagex produces and if they can convince players to stay.

What you have to remember though is that the back bone of the community isn't the new players it is the old players who use to play around the time. As they get older and inevitably they get more commitments in real life the numbers playing will decrease.

There is always going to be a fresh cycle of new players. Considering they had just brought back 07 this year and the rate of people joining is slowly growing as of January - it'll be years.

As long as 07 can continue to make Jagex profit they will continue to run the servers.

It seems like the rs community is only decreasing instead of growing, new people dont play rs as much(only veterans). Unless jagex could appeal to new users i give them 2-3 years

Well, considering you can still play Runescape Classic, provided you met the requirements to do so in the past, I think Old School Runescape will be around for as long as Jagex is.

The main concern for Jagex should not be Runescape, it should be the very real fact that all of their projects post-Runescape have lost money or have been complete busts + scrapped projects. Mechscape, FunOrb, Stellar Dawn, all that stuff they were planning to do failed. Also, I don't see them making any sort of revenue off of that Transformers game.

Jagex needs to keep making money and to keep making Runescape better, but it's getting harder and harder for them to do so.

    Very well put.

As long as Jagex keeps introducing new items and possibly skills into OSRS - it will maintain its population if not grow.

Agreed bro, I love the updates they're coming out with. The Pets were a really cool idea to give a little incentive to PvM, and they look fantastic. They are purely cosmetic and don't impact the game in any negative way. Those are the types of updates I love, they add cool bonuses that helps keep the game fresh and revitalize content.

Totally agree, I think the only thing that will stop 07 from staying the same OR growing is the permanent death of Jagex.

07 will be there as long as there is still RS3. RS07 produces a huge amount of profit for Jagex, and they could monetize it even further (in two ways actually) if they were smart enough to stop making shitty updates for it.

In my opinion it's a toxic question. All games die eventually, you just have to enjoy them in the meanwhile.

How many years does Runescape as a whole have left?
With the trend of more people quitting than picking up the game for the first time, and overall disdain form the community towards game updates, I say about 3 to 5 years.
The cult of scape addicts Jagex has created will probably keep it alive an extra year or two. I am one myself.
