Login with e-mail Address

Even though I know my username... I see a lot of sites using username and e-mail address and it has actually proven useful a couple times for me... But I don't know :/

 

I don't see why not -- could be easy to implement. It also doesn't do anything but benefit us.

 

Can't see any drawbacks to this. If enough users claimed it would be easier for them to login via email, I say we do it. I can't imagine implementation would be difficult at all. Could be wrong though!

 

I doubt there has ever been a trend of people forgetting their username, so I don't see why this would be useful.

Why??? I hate having to sign in with an email address... and even then, what good will it serve?

 

I think it should be the option of email or username. I don't see any cons to this suggestion, so unless it's hard to implement why not? It could potentially only be beneficial to a certain select few but if it benefits someone there is no reason not to.

 

Some people come back to the site after long time forget there username... Nobody forgets there e-mail it would save the hassle of recovering...

 

I do not agree with this. As I do, I remember the username that I used, not the e-mail, since i have more than 10 I can't really remember them all, in fact that I use them for many things.

 

I would say I answer more recovery requests where people have forgotten their e-mail or password over username.

 

You'd have to be pretty stupid to forget your username that you use to register to Sythe.

Only purpose I would see using a email address to sign in is if Facebook or other social media sites were heavily involved within Sythe.

And as far as I can see, I don't think that is the case.

 

No support. You don't see a mass amount of people just forgetting their usernames. If they do there is a recovery section for a reason. Waste of time.

 

If it's easy to implement and could potentially help some users, why not? What does it hurt?

 

Are "users" honestly that lazy that they can't post in a recovery section? There is literally no point to this.

 

Once again, what are the downsides to this? I'm pretty sure it's easy to implement and wouldn't cause harm, but it could be beneficial.

 

How sure are you it's easy to implement? Second is why waste Matt and Sythes time? When they could be working on something that would be a lot more beneficial? It's honestly a pointless update.

 

From my experience with other forums, it's an easy implementation. If it takes less than 5-10 minutes what would be harm? Obviously there are more beneficial things - but I don't see what it would hurt having to spare a few minutes to do something that could at least benefit a selection of users. Pointless updates are updates that don't have any benefits to them whatsoever - with the sites or it's users - rather than, this has benefits, even if it's a slim amount.

 

So if you're unable to remember your username "you" being general. What makes you think users are going to be able to remember the email they used to log in?

 

I generally like this on any site but I'm not sure it is needed all that much.
