If you're fine with Windows as it is, don't bother switching. I use linux and like it, but if you're attached to your Windows, then you might have a hard time transitioning to linux.

If you're using a laptop, I recommend dual-booting first. I used to use it, mainly for coding, and it was amazing. The only thing Windows has over linux is support. If you're thinking of trying linux, I'd go with Ubuntu.

If you're an "advanced" Windows user, switching will be harder than if you were new to computers.

"The only thing Windows has over linux is support."
If you mean hardware support, you're wrong.
The only thing Linux doesn't run on is bleeding edge hardware, built by companies who refuse to release the specs. Update your kernel, fag.

If you mean technical support, you're wrong.
Ubuntu has some of the most active forums on the web, and generally, an Ubuntu release will fix problems quicker than anything Microsoft could ever hope for, due to the fluid nature of developing Linux distributions.

If you mean vendor support, you're half-right. Windows is supported by a much wider range of manufacturers, but Linux is supported by many internet companies, as well as big OEMs like Dell.

Bottom line, Linux for anything important, Windows for games. Dual-boot.

I meant both with support. Many vendors refuse to release source code to their firmware, so some devices don't work. As is the case with my Broadcom 4306 wifi card.

My wireless card isn't really supported, but I use ndiswrapper if I really need it.

Here's betting whoa.no-ip uses Ubantoo. I use Debian, it's a stable beast. Only crashes I've had have been Iceweasel at fault.

I'm betting you've never used crux, Gentoo or built an LFS.
