I understand what you are saying, but that doesn't explain what energy is composed of.

Are you trying to ask what energy is in general?

If that is what you are asking, all things can be used as energy. Energy can take form in any and every form mass. Everything has and is energy, no matter what it is.

Or were you asking something else?

Yes, I am asking what energy is in general.

    *EDIT*

But what forces it to accelerate upon leaving the atmosphere?

If light didn't travel at the speed of light, what would happen to "light". Anyone care to answer ;).

It would take longer to reach us or may not reach us at all. But as you know you can slow it down like water.

My defintion of energy is simple.

    Energy equals anything and everything.

    Books defintion-
A fundamental entity of nature that is transferred between parts of a system in the production of physical change within the system.

    Nothing would happen...

the colours of the sun shine and some of the colours get refracted. which is why grass is green and the sky is blue.

Everything, a book is energy, yourself, my desk, my lighter, the light and anything else you can think of...

There are only a few types of energy-
    Kinetic- associated with motion.
    Radiant- electromagnetic waves.
Potential- the energy that a piece of matter has because of its position or nature or because of the arrangement of parts.

That answered the question "What does energy compose?"

My question was "What is energy composed of?"

That does answer the question, energy is anything that can convert or change a phyiscal form or move something, therefore you are energy, my book, myself and more... Whether or not the energy is active is different. Although everything is energy even if it has to be extracted in different ways.

You're explaining what energy is. I want to know what it's composed of. What are its constituent parts?

There are not parts or qualities of energy. Energy is transferable through things, it takes no shape or form of its own. So I am confused at what your asking?

Atoms are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons can be broken down into their constituent parts. What can energy be broken down into?
